Chapter 4 - The Turning Tides and Corporate Wiretaps

The courtroom atmosphere had shifted entirely from a prosecution ambush into an absolute legal reckoning.
Judge Henderson adjusted her glasses and looked down at the prosecution team with sharp disapproval.
"In light of the declassified evidence and sworn military testimony,"
Judge Henderson announced sternly,
"the court finds that the criminal charges regarding military record fraud and stolen valor are entirely without merit.
All fraud counts against Captain Claire Cross are hereby dismissed with prejudice."
A loud wave of applause broke out in the back rows of the gallery before the bailiffs quickly restored order.
Ryan tried to gather his papers hastily,
leaning over to whisper to his attorney Victor Vance.
"Let's get out of here right now,"
Ryan hissed under his breath,
his knuckles white as he jammed documents into his leather briefcase.
"We can still enforce the secondary will in probate court before they process this."
"Not so fast,
Mr.
Cross,"
Daniel Mercer spoke up loudly,
his voice cutting across the room with razor-sharp authority.
"Your Honor,"
Daniel addressed the bench,
"while the state's criminal case has been dismissed,
we have filed an emergency cross-motion regarding the validity of the secondary will and the ongoing corporate authority of Cross Meridian Systems."
Vance stood up abruptly,
his voice rising in frantic protest.
"Your Honor,
this is a criminal courtroom!
Probate disputes and corporate governance issues belong in civil court!
This motion is entirely out of order!"
"Under normal circumstances,
you would be correct,
Mr.
Vance,"
Judge Henderson countered smoothly,
retaining full control of the proceedings.
"However,
since your client utilized criminal allegations of fraud to stay the execution of Arthur Cross's primary estate structure,
this court retains immediate jurisdiction over the related material facts.
I will hear Mr.
Mercer's motion."
Daniel picked up a thick,
black binder from our desk and stepped toward the center of the courtroom.
"Your Honor,"
Daniel began,
"for the past six months,
Mr.
Ryan Cross has publicly claimed that his father distrusted Captain Cross due to her alleged military deception.
However,
we have recovered handwritten journals belonging to the late Arthur Cross,
recovered directly from his personal estate vault."
Daniel opened the binder,
displaying high-resolution forensic scans of my father's distinct handwriting on the large evidence monitor.
"These journal entries reveal that long before his death,"
Daniel explained,
"Arthur Cross discovered massive,
unauthorized wire transfers leaving Cross Meridian Systems' primary operating accounts.
Over fourteen million dollars were systematically routed through offshore shell corporations operating under the name 'Aegis Holdings' and 'Vanguard Global Consulting'."
Ryan's face drained of every remaining drop of color,
his breath catching sharply in his throat.
"Furthermore,"
Daniel continued,
turning a page on the screen,
"forensic accounting logs verified by federal financial investigators show that the sole beneficial owner of these offshore shell companies is none other than Ryan Cross himself."
My mother Evelyn gasped aloud,
turning her head to stare at her son in absolute disbelief.
"Ryan..."
Evelyn stammered,
her voice trembling with horror,
"what...
what is he talking about?
You told me those offshore accounts were set up by Claire to steal your father's money!"
Ryan snapped around to glare at our mother,
his composure completely disintegrating into hysterical rage.
"Shut up,
Mom!"
Ryan shouted,
forgetting entirely where he was standing.
"Just shut your mouth!"
"Order!"
Judge Henderson slammed her gavel down with thunderous force.
"Mr.
Cross,
you will control yourself in this court!"
Daniel did not break his stride,
pointing a finger directly at the electronic evidence display.
"Arthur Cross discovered these illegal wire transfers three weeks before his passing,"
Daniel revealed,
his voice heavy with solemn truth.
"When he confronted Ryan privately,
Ryan realized he was about to be completely disinherited and removed from the company.
That was when Ryan manufactured the fake secondary will,
utilizing a forged signature created by an illicit document alteration service."
Daniel stepped back to our table and pulled out an audio storage drive,
holding it up for the judge to see.
"We have also submitted wiretap recordings authorized by federal authorities,
capturing conversations between Ryan Cross and his offshore financial facilitators.
In these recordings,
Mr.
Cross explicitly outlines his plan to use false military fraud allegations to discredit Captain Cross,
ensuring she would be legally tied up in court while he liquidated Cross Meridian Systems' core defense patents."
The prosecutor stared at Ryan in sheer disbelief,
realizing that he had been manipulated into acting as a pawn in a massive corporate theft scheme.
Vance slowly sat back down in his chair,
placing his hands over his face,
knowing there was no legal defense on Earth that could save his client from the mountain of evidence stacking up against him.
Ryan looked around the courtroom like a cornered animal,
sweat pouring down his neck,
his eyes darting wildly between the judge,
the marshals,
and the jury.
"It was my company!"
Ryan suddenly screamed out,
his voice cracking with bitter jealousy and madness.
"Dad built that company for ME!
He gave everything to HER just because she put on a uniform and played the brave little soldier!
I spent ten years working in those corporate offices while she was running around playing hero!
May you like
I deserved that money!"
The entire courtroom watched in stunned silence as my brother completely exposed his own guilt and malicious motives in a fit of unrestrained hatred.
