Chapter 4 - Digital Shadows

At 2:00 AM on the eve of the wedding, the basement office of my townhouse looked like a tactical war room.
Blue light from six high-resolution monitors illuminated the faces of three federal cyber analysts.
Marcus stood behind them, his tie loosened and an unlit cigar clenched between his teeth.
"The trap is set, Eleanor," Marcus said, pointing at the waterfall of raw financial code scrolling down the center screen.
"We cracked the encryption on Julian’s private cloud account three hours ago."
"What did you pull?" I asked, leaning over the console.
"Everything you suspected, and worse."
The lead analyst tapped a key, bringing up a secure directory titled 'Vance Acquisition'.
Folder after folder revealed coordinated market manipulation.
Harrison Sterling had intentionally paid offshore shipping cartels to pirate Vance distribution ships six months prior.
He had manufactured my father’s financial crisis from thin air.
"Look at these wire transfers," the analyst pointed out.
"Harrison moved fourteen million dollars through an unlisted shell company in Panama to bribe the port authorities."
"He deliberately choked off Thomas Vance's supply lines."
"He pushed your family into bankruptcy so he could seize the deep-water harbor rights Vance Marine controls in Boston."
"And the personal threats?" I inquired, my jaw clenching hard.
"Julian documented his own crimes with breathtaking stupidity," Marcus replied, pulling up another subfolder.
On the screen appeared audio recordings of Julian bragging to his fraternity brothers about breaking Lily’s spirit.
There were high-definition photographs he took of her bruised back, sent to an encrypted group chat with the caption:
'Taming the heiress before the ink dries.'
"He kept souvenirs," I said, a wave of disgust rolling over me.
"He kept self-incriminating evidence for federal conspiracy and felony aggravated assault," Marcus corrected.
"What about the cathedral's audiovisual setup?"
The cyber analyst turned with a grin.
"We bypassed the venue's closed-circuit feed an hour ago."
"The Sterling PR team rented four massive LED walls inside the nave so all eight hundred guests could watch the vows."
"They think those screens are running a high-def drone feed of the bridal procession."
"Can we override it from here?"
"With a single keystroke," the analyst confirmed.
"The moment Julian says 'I do,' we can broadcast his private chats, the offshore wire receipts, and the audio files across all four screens."
I looked at the digital clock on the wall.
It was 3:15 AM.
In seven hours, Lily would be stepping into the bridal limousine.
"Eleanor," Marcus said gently, placing a heavy hand on my shoulder.
"Once this broadcast starts, your cover as an anonymous consultant is completely blown."
"Every cartel attorney and high-stakes criminal you’ve investigated will know your face."
"My sister was bleeding into her wedding dress twelve hours ago, Marcus," I replied, looking him in the eye.
"Let them look at my face."
"I want the Sterlings to see who dismantled their empire."

"Prepare the arrest warrants for Harrison, Julian, and the three port commissioners on their payroll."
"We strike during the benediction."
