Chapter 7 - The double cross

The shock of the betrayal froze the air in the subterranean safehouse. Victoria stared at Blair, the woman she had handpicked from the elite ranks of corporate espionage, the woman she had trusted to dismantle her husband. The realization hit Victoria with the force of a physical blow. Blair hadn't been seduced by Ethan at the restaurant. Ethan hadn't flipped her. Blair had been working for the Architect from the very beginning.

"You orchestrated the entire narrative," Victoria stated, her voice miraculously calm, suppressing the raging inferno of betrayal within her. "You fed me the financial routing data. You manipulated the FBI raid. You ensured Ethan stole the funds to trigger the Geneva alert."

Blair smiled, keeping the pistol leveled perfectly at Victoria's heart. "You are brilliant, Victoria, but you suffer from the classic billionaire flaw. You believe that because you sign the checks, you control the loyalty. The Architect pays much, much better."

"Why kill Arthur?" Victoria asked, glancing at the fallen lawyer.

"Because he was the only physical key to the Geneva vault," Blair explained, her luminous blue eyes cold and calculating. "The Architect doesn't want you to open the vault cooperatively. They want to extract your eyes and open it themselves. Arthur was a loose end."

Blair reached into her tailored gray pantsuit and pulled out a heavy, encrypted satellite phone. She pressed a single button. "The package is secured. Send the extraction team to the safehouse coordinates."

Victoria did not beg. She did not tremble. She calculated. The heavy steel door was locked from the inside. Blair was an exceptional corporate spy, but she was not a hardened combat operative. The distance between them was exactly twelve feet.

"You made one catastrophic miscalculation, Blair," Victoria said, her piercing hazel eyes locking onto the blonde traitor.

Blair scoffed. "And what is that?"

"You assumed I didn't verify the architecture of my own safehouse," Victoria replied softly.

Victoria subtly shifted her weight and pressed her heel hard against a specific, raised rivet in the concrete floor.

Instantly, the server racks lining the walls executed an emergency thermal purge. A massive, localized blast of blinding, sub-zero liquid nitrogen vapor exploded horizontally across the room, completely enveloping Blair in a freezing, impenetrable whiteout cloud.

Blair shrieked in shock, firing her pistol wildly into the vapor, but the freezing gas disoriented her instantly.

Victoria moved with the lethal grace of a predator. She ducked beneath the wild gunfire, closing the twelve feet in a fraction of a second. She emerged from the freezing vapor right beside Blair, executing a flawless, devastating strike to the blonde’s wrist, disarming her instantly.

Victoria grabbed Blair by the collar of her expensive suit and hurled her violently against the solid concrete wall. Blair collapsed to the floor, gasping for air, the arrogant, smug confidence completely shattered.

Victoria retrieved the fallen pistol, aiming it directly at Blair’s head.

"You are going to call your extraction team back," Victoria ordered, her voice vibrating with a terrifying, absolute authority. "And then you are going to tell me exactly where Ethan and the Architect are staging the assault in Geneva. Because if you don't, I won't just kill you. I will erase your entire existence from the global grid."

Blair looked up at the stunning, elegant billionaire standing over her like a vengeful god, realizing that she had drastically, fatally underestimated the queen of Vanguard Holdings.
