Chapter 5 - The Confrontation at Voss Tower: Declan and Savannah’s Hollow Alliance

The memory of that afternoon inside Voss Tower still burned in Savannah Calloway’s mind like corrosive acid.
She stood in the center of the sprawling penthouse living room,
holding a crystal flute filled with expensive champagne,
watching Declan stare silently at the snow falling outside.
“Your little restoration artist is still haunting you,
isn’t she?” Savannah asked,
her voice dripping with venomous amusement.
She ran a manicured nail along the rim of her crystal glass,
stepping closer to the man who commanded half the underworld.
“Everyone in Chicago is laughing behind your back,
Declan.
The great Voss boss,
tamed by a common civilian girl who fled into the night like a frightened rabbit.
My father thinks you’re weak for letting her slip through your fingers.
” Declan turned slowly,
his dark eyes fixed on Savannah with an intensity that made her step back involuntarily against the marble counter.
There was no warmth in his gaze,
only a chilling,
fathomless void that promised eternal damnation.
“Your father thinks a lot of things,
Savannah,
” Declan replied quietly,
his voice dangerously smooth and lethal.
“He thinks the marriage contract gives him control over the North Side shipping lanes.
He thinks my silence means submission to his syndicate.
Let him enjoy his illusions for a few more days.
” Savannah’s confident smile faltered slightly,
replaced by a sudden flicker of genuine unease.
“You wouldn’t dare cross my father before the wedding ceremony is officially consecrated.
Our families’ alliance is the only thing keeping fragile peace in this city.
” Declan stepped forward,
towering over her,
the scent of expensive sandalwood and impending doom enveloping him completely.
