Chapter 15 - The Siege of the Mountain Cabin

While Declan coordinated the final strike from a secure hospital ward,
the Calloway hit squad tracked our medical transport to Knoxville.
Just as the sun began to peek over the eastern horizon,
the private recovery wing of the hospital went into absolute lockdown.
Red emergency strobe lights flashed silently along the sterile hallways,
painting the walls in crimson hues.
Alarms wailed in the distance,
cutting through the morning calm.
Gavin Roarke burst into my hospital room,
his tactical rifle raised,
his face grim and hardened for battle.
“Boss,
they breached the ground floor,
” Gavin reported urgently.
“They have explosives,
Amelia.
We have to move through the service elevator right now before they trap us here.
” Before I could swing my legs over the side of the bed,
the heavy double doors of the room blew inward in a deafening blast of smoke and splintered wood.
Two masked Calloway enforcers rushed through the doorway,
automatic weapons leveled directly at my hospital bed.
Gavin fired instantly,
dropping the first enforcer with a clean,
professional headshot.
The second enforcer lunged forward,
swinging the heavy butt of his rifle toward Gavin’s head with brutal intent.
Before the blow could land,
a towering figure stepped out from the adjoining bathroom with terrifying speed.
It was Declan,
his shirt soaked with sweat and blood,
his face carved from absolute,
merciless fury.
