Chapter 6 - Selena’s Web of Lies

Julian attempted to regain control of the room, shouting frantically for private security to remove the intruders for disturbing a private charity event.
However, Marcus Kane stepped up onto the stage, flashing a notarized court injunction that froze any attempt to touch either me or my legal counsel.
Kane turned to the media pool at the front of the stage, projecting a series of digitized bank records onto the massive presentation projector behind Julian.
The glowing blue light illuminated transaction logs tracing back eighteen months, revealing millions siphoned from Vance Holdings’ accounts.
Every single dollar had been redirected into an offshore shell company registered in the Cayman Islands under Selena Cole’s maiden name.
Julian spun around, staring at the screen in pure bewilderment as the undeniable paper trail was laid bare for the entire board to witness.
Kane explained to the room that Selena had not returned to Julian out of enduring romantic love, but because she was drowning in catastrophic debt.
She owed over eight million dollars to an illegal gambling syndicate operating out of Atlantic City, which had threatened her life months ago.
Her return to Julian’s life was an orchestrated extortion scheme, designed to manipulate his lingering obsession into liquidating Vance assets.
Julian turned to Selena, his eyes wide with horror as he demanded to know if the financial documents flashing on the wall were authentic.
Selena’s delicate, innocent facade crumbled completely right before the eyes of the city's highest society elite and the live news cameras.
She sneered at Julian, telling him that he was an arrogant, gullible fool who thought a few sweet words meant she actually cared for him.
She spat that Julian had always been an insecure little boy playing at being a CEO, desperate for validation from anyone who stroked his ego.
She reminded him that he was the one who held the knife, that he was the one who plunged it into his pregnant wife’s belly without checking the facts.
The mention of the knife sent an audible gasp through the assembled crowd, reporters leaning forward over the press ropes with recording devices raised.
Julian looked between Selena’s sneering face and the sea of horrified faces in the audience, realizing his golden life was slipping through his fingers.
He tried to claim that Selena was lying, that Nora was mentally unstable, that the entire spectacle was a coordinated conspiracy to ruin him.
He reached down off the stage, attempting to grab my wrist to pull me into a private side room before any more damage could be done.
Dr. Caleb Reed stepped in front of Julian’s reaching hand, catching Julian’s wrist in an iron grip that twisted the billionaire backward.
Caleb warned Julian that if he so much as brushed against me again, he would ensure Julian spent the rest of his natural life behind bars.

Julian stumbled back onto the stage, gasping for breath as security guards hired by the hotel refused to obey his increasingly frantic commands.
The Vance family dynasty, built on a century of polished reputation and untouchable privilege, had cracked open like cheap porcelain in ten minutes.
