Chapter 8 - The Desperate Pleading

Outside the massive,

impenetrable iron gates of the Vance estate,

a heavy,

torrential rain had begun to violently,

relentlessly pour from the dark,

angry sky.

Julian Mercer stood shivering,

soaking wet,

and completely,

utterly pathetic in the muddy,

flooded driveway,

screaming wildly,

hysterically at the tall,

stone-faced security guards blocking his desperate,

doomed path.

His expensive,

custom-made Italian suit was completely,

irreparably ruined,

clinging tightly,

uncomfortably to his thin,

shaking frame,

while his expensive,

designer shoes were completely,

hopelessly submerged in the thick,

slimy mud.

"You have to let me inside,

you stupid,

ignorant brutes!"

Julian shrieked,

his voice cracking,

breaking under the heavy,

crushing weight of his total,

absolute ruin.

"I am Clara's legally,

lawfully wedded husband,

and I have a legal,

fundamental right to see my pregnant,

vulnerable wife!"

The lead security guard,

a massive,

intimidating former military operative with a cold,

unreadable expression,

did not even blink,

flinch,

or acknowledge the pathetic,

screaming man in any meaningful,

visible way.

"Mr. Mercer,"

the guard finally said,

his voice deep,

calm,

and filled with absolute,

unwavering authority,

"you are currently,

blatantly trespassing on highly restricted,

private property."

Julian lunged forward,

grabbing the cold,

wet iron bars of the massive,

imposing gate,

shaking them violently,

futilely with his weak,

trembling hands.

"Clara!"

he screamed,

tipping his head back,

staring desperately,

hopelessly up at the massive,

glowing windows of the beautiful,

sprawling mansion.

"Clara,

please,

I know you can hear me,

I know you still deeply,

truly love me!"

Inside the warm,

comfortable estate,

I stood quietly,

safely behind the thick,

bulletproof glass of my luxurious,

spacious bedroom window,

looking down at the tiny,

insignificant speck of a man screaming in the cold,

dark rain.

Eleanor stood closely,

protectively right beside me,

her arm wrapped securely,

comfortingly around my shoulders,

watching the pathetic,

miserable display with a cold,

calculating expression of pure,

unadulterated disgust.

"He is completely,

utterly broken,"

I whispered,

feeling absolutely no pity,

no sorrow,

and no lingering,

foolish affection for the cruel,

manipulative monster who had tried to completely,

systematically destroy my life.

"He is nothing,

Clara,"

Eleanor replied smoothly,

her voice hard,

sharp,

and completely devoid of any basic,

human mercy.

"He thought he was a powerful,

unstoppable predator,

but he was only a tiny,

insignificant parasite feeding on a beautiful,

innocent host."

Down below,

in the cold,

relentless rain,

the flashing,

bright red and blue lights of multiple,

heavy police cruisers suddenly,

dramatically pierced the dark,

gloomy night.

Four heavily armed,

serious federal agents stepped out of the sleek,

black vehicles,

marching purposefully,

aggressively toward the screaming,

sobbing man clinging desperately,

pathetically to our massive,

iron gate.

"Julian Mercer,"

one of the tall,

intimidating agents shouted over the loud,

crashing sound of the violent,

heavy thunderstorm,

"you are officially,

formally under arrest for multiple,

severe counts of federal wire fraud,

massive tax evasion,

and blatant,

undeniable corporate embezzlement."

Julian froze,

his eyes wide,

staring in absolute,

unmitigated horror as the serious,

unsmiling agents grabbed his weak,

shaking arms,

twisting them forcefully,

painfully behind his wet,

ruined back.

"No,

wait,

this is a massive,

terrible misunderstanding!"

Julian cried out,

kicking wildly,

futilely as they slapped the heavy,

cold steel handcuffs tightly,

securely around his pale,

trembling wrists.

"My wife is Clara Vance,

she is a billionaire,

she will hire the best,

most expensive lawyers to completely,

immediately clear my innocent,

blameless name!"

The lead federal agent let out a short,

harsh laugh,

shaking his head in pure,

utter disbelief at the sheer,

staggering audacity of the pathetic,

broken man.

"Your ex-wife's powerful,

highly expensive lawyers are the exact,

specific people who handed us the massive,

undeniable mountain of concrete,

irrefutable evidence against you,

buddy,"

the agent stated clearly,

loudly,

shoving Julian roughly,

unceremoniously into the back of the dark,

cramped police cruiser.

I watched quietly,

peacefully as the heavy,

metal door slammed shut,

trapping the cruel,

arrogant man inside a small,

confined space from which he would never,

ever escape.

The flashing,

bright police lights slowly,

gradually faded away into the dark,

stormy distance,

leaving the massive,

sprawling estate in complete,

total,

and absolute tranquility.

"It is finally,

truly over,"

I said,

letting out a long,

relieved sigh,

feeling a massive,

crushing weight lift entirely,

permanently off my tired,

aching chest.

"No,

my sweet,

beautiful daughter,"

Eleanor corrected gently,

pressing a warm,

loving kiss to the side of my pale,

peaceful forehead.

"Your old,

painful life is finally,

permanently over,

but your beautiful,

May you like

glorious new life is only just,

miraculously beginning."
