Chapter 2 - The Systematic Destruction

Julian took a step back,
his expensive shoes squeaking loudly against the polished,
hardwood floor.
"This is a trick,"
Julian stammered,
his voice cracking slightly,
betraying the immense,
suffocating panic that was rapidly rising in his tight,
constricted throat.
"She is a gold-digger,
a liar,
and a manipulative,
insane woman who is just trying to steal my hard-earned,
legitimate fortune!"
Eleanor turned her head slowly,
fixing Julian with a stare so cold,
so utterly devoid of mercy,
that I actually saw him physically flinch.
She snapped her fingers once,
a sharp,
crisp sound that instantly summoned her lead attorney,
a tall,
imposing man with silver hair and a terrifying,
predatory smile.
The attorney stepped forward,
dropping a massive,
heavy stack of legally binding,
meticulously researched documents directly onto Julian's small,
inadequate legal table.
"Julian Mercer,"
the lead attorney began,
his voice booming with absolute,
unquestionable authority,
"you have committed extensive,
blatant fraud,
hiding marital assets in illegal,
unregistered offshore accounts,
and forging your wife's signature on dozens of complex,
binding corporate documents."
Julian's lawyer,
a sleazy,
overpriced man who had relentlessly tortured me for the past six months,
suddenly looked extremely nervous,
sweating profusely under the harsh,
unforgiving courtroom lights.
"Your Honor,"
Julian's lawyer squeaked,
trying to sound brave,
"this is highly irregular,
unprecedented,
and completely inappropriate for a closed,
private divorce proceeding."
Judge Carter ignored him completely,
leaning forward with intense,
burning curiosity,
his greedy eyes locked onto the massive stack of explosive,
career-ending evidence.
"Mrs. Vance,"
the judge said respectfully,
his tone completely devoid of the condescending,
arrogant attitude he had previously directed at me,
"what exactly are you bringing before this honorable,
impartial court?"
Eleanor smiled,
but it was a terrifying,
blood-chilling expression that promised nothing but absolute,
unmitigated ruin.
"I am bringing proof,
Your Honor,
that this pathetic,
insignificant worm of a man has spent the last two years financially,
emotionally,
and legally abusing the sole heir to the Vance global empire."
She walked slowly around Julian,
circling him like a sleek,
deadly predator evaluating a weak,
defenseless prey.
"He forced my pregnant,
vulnerable daughter to sign a fraudulent,
illegal prenuptial agreement under intense,
psychological duress,
while systematically draining her personal savings to fund his failing,
miserable real estate ventures."
Julian opened his mouth to argue,
to lie,
to manipulate the truth as he always did,
but Eleanor cut him off with a sharp,
dismissive wave of her perfectly manicured hand.
"Do not speak,
Julian,
because every single word that leaves your disgusting,
lying mouth will be used to ensure you spend the next two decades rotting in a cold,
damp federal prison."
The lead attorney began handing documents directly to the stunned,
speechless judge.
"We have financial records,
wire transfer receipts,
and sworn affidavits from his own corrupt,
terrified accountants,
proving beyond any shadow of a doubt that Mr. Mercer has committed millions of dollars in tax evasion,
corporate espionage,
and blatant,
undeniable marital fraud."
Julian's knees finally buckled,
and he collapsed heavily into his wooden chair,
his arrogant facade completely,
irreparably shattered.
I watched him fall apart,
feeling a strange,
powerful sense of vindication washing over my tired,
aching body,
May you like
as my baby gave another strong,
healthy kick.
