Chapter 9 - The Secret Offshore Accounts Exposed

The heavy click of the silver revolver cocking in Eleanor’s hand echoed like thunder inside the tiny kitchen.
Ruth gasped,
instinctively lunging forward despite her age to put herself between the weapon and my baby.
Get away from her, you lunatic!
Ruth shouted,
swinging her heavy wooden cane with surprising speed.
The thick oak struck Eleanor’s wrist with a sharp crack,
sending the heavy silver revolver flying out of her grip and skidding across the linoleum floor.
Eleanor shrieked in pain,
clutching her bruised wrist to her chest as she glared at Ruth with pure, unadulterated venom.
You broken-down old hag!
Eleanor screamed,
lunging forward to retrieve the fallen weapon.
Before Eleanor's fingers could graze the grip of the gun,
the back door of the cottage burst open with explosive force.
Three armed federal marshals poured into the room,
tackling Eleanor to the floor and pinning her face against the checkered linoleum tiles before she could utter another sound.
Don't move!
The lead marshal commanded,
pressing his knee firmly between her shoulder blades while snapping heavy steel handcuffs around her wrists.
Eleanor Hayes,
you are under arrest for attempted assault on federal witnesses,
obstruction of justice,
and conspiracy to commit wire fraud.
As the marshals hauled Eleanor to her feet,
kicking and screaming obscenities that shook the framed pictures on the walls,
I didn't flinch.
I simply adjusted my baby against my chest and looked down at her with cold, clinical detachment.
Take her away,
I instructed the lead marshal quietly.
And make sure her holding cell doesn't have a telephone.
Once the front door slammed shut behind the departing federal agents,
the kitchen fell into a profound, heavy silence.
Ruth let out a long, shaky breath,
leaning heavily against the counter to steady her legs.
Well,
she muttered,
rubbing her wrist.
I certainly didn't expect to play action hero before noon today.
You were magnificent, Ruth,
I said,
offering her a warm, genuine smile.
Thank you for saving us.
Ruth waved away the praise with a weathered hand,
staring down at the dented plaster near the front hallway.
I'm just glad my old reflexes still work.
Now,
what happens next?
I walked over to the kitchen table,
picking up my encrypted laptop computer and flipping open the lid.
With a few swift keystrokes,
I accessed the secondary server partition—the one Marcus and the federal investigators didn't even know existed yet.
For months,
while Trevor and Eleanor were busy hiding money in the Cayman Islands,
I had been quietly tracing a much larger, darker financial web.
It wasn't just corporate embezzlement.
It was international asset laundering linked to illegal real estate cartels operating across the American Southwest.
The Hayes family weren't just wealthy businessmen;
they were the primary financial laundering hubs for a syndicate of corrupt politicians and underground syndicates.
And I had every single transaction receipt,
every encrypted email,
and every offshore account routing number saved in triplicate across secure cloud servers located outside of federal jurisdiction.
I looked up at Ruth,
my eyes shining with absolute determination.

This was never just about a divorce settlement, Ruth.
This was about tearing down the entire rotten foundation so nothing toxic could ever grow from it again.
