Chapter 14 - The Ultimate Judgment

I walked slowly down the hallway,

supported by the paramedic,

every step feeling lighter,

every breath feeling cleaner.

When I reached the grand foyer,

the scene before me was a masterpiece of poetic justice,

a painting I would cherish for the rest of my life.

Daniel was pressed against the expensive silk wallpaper,

a police officer violently wrenching his arms behind his back,

the cold steel handcuffs clicking loudly around his wrists.

His designer suit was wrinkled,

his perfect hair was a mess,

his charming face twisted into a mask of pathetic,

helpless rage.

Vivian was putting up a fight,

screaming at the top of her lungs,

flailing her arms wildly as a female officer tried to subdue her.

"Get your filthy hands off me,"

Vivian shrieked,

her face purple with indignation.

"I am a respected member of society,

I know the mayor,

I will have all of your badges for this outrage!"

"You can tell the mayor all about it from your holding cell,

ma'am,"

the officer replied dryly,

forcing Vivian's wrists together and locking the cuffs with a satisfying snap.

Marcus stood in the center of the room,

holding a sleek,

black tablet,

watching the chaos with a cold,

calculating smile.

When he saw me,

his expression softened,

a profound relief washing over his sharp features.

"Elena,"

Marcus said gently,

stepping forward,

careful not to touch my injured shoulders.

"Are you alright?"

"I am now,"

I whispered,

my voice trembling,

but my posture standing incredibly straight,

refusing to cower in front of them ever again.

Daniel locked eyes with me,

a venomous,

hateful glare that would have paralyzed me just a week ago.

"You stupid bitch,"

Daniel spat,

struggling against the officer's grip.

"You think you can win?

You have no proof,

it's your word against ours,

and no judge will believe a crazy,

pill-popping hysteric."

Marcus chuckled,

a dark,

amused sound that cut through the tension in the room.

"Actually,

Daniel,"

Marcus said,

tapping the screen of his tablet,

turning the volume all the way up.

"We have far more than her word."

Marcus pressed play,

and Vivian’s cruel,

unmistakable voice filled the foyer,

the secret recording from the hospital room.

It was supposed to hurt.

Maybe next time,

you will learn your place in my son's house.

Vivian went completely pale,

her jaw dropping in absolute horror,

realizing that her own arrogance had sealed her fate.

"That is doctored,"

Daniel yelled,

desperation making his voice crack.

"She faked that audio,

you can't use that in court."

"Oh,

I don't just have audio,

Daniel,"

Marcus smiled,

swiping his finger across the screen,

bringing up the live feed from the air purifier hidden in my room.

The screen displayed crystal-clear,

high-definition video of Daniel grabbing me,

throwing me onto the bed,

and locking the door the night before.

You are not going to eat,

you are not going to drink,

until you figure out how to fix this mess.

The officers in the room watched the video,

their faces hardening with absolute disgust,

their grips on Daniel and Vivian tightening significantly.

"You have the right to remain silent,"

the arresting officer began reciting the Miranda rights,

his voice booming with authority.

"Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law."

Daniel stopped struggling,

his knees buckling slightly,

the overwhelming weight of the undeniable evidence crushing his arrogant spirit.

He was finished,

his career was over,

May you like

his wealth was frozen,

and his future was a concrete cell.
