Chapter 3

The silence in the grand dining room was a physical, suffocating pressure. The tall candles flickering inside their silver candelabras seemed to be the only things moving. The bright, luminous colors of the room felt painfully sharp, illuminating the exact moment the polished illusion of the Blackwell empire began to violently fracture.
Soren’s expression remained an unreadable mask of masculine stone. He did not return Camilla's smile. He did not accept her smooth, practiced reassurance. Instead, he moved with lethal fluidity.
Soren rose fully beside Elodie, placing his towering, broad-shouldered frame deliberately between Camilla and both the housemaid and his young daughter, Alice, who was standing just a few feet away. His dark tailored suit acted as a physical barrier.
He gave Elodie a single, imperceptible nod.
With trembling hands, Elodie reached down and folded back the edge of the thick knitted blanket. The warm golden light of the cascading chandeliers flooded the interior of the bassinet, revealing the horrifying truth. Resting on the mattress was not a sleeping six-month-old infant, but a highly realistic, lifeless baby doll, its rigid plastic face staring blankly upward.
Elodie looked directly at Soren. Her beautiful, softly heart-shaped face was drawn tight with terror. Her lips trembled, and with a frightening, agonizing clarity, she spoke into the dead silence of the room.
"This is a doll."
The words hit the room with the force of a detonating bomb. A collective, quiet gasp rippled through the fifty elite guests.
Before anyone could process the sheer magnitude of the betrayal, a small, fragile voice broke the tableau.
Alice, still standing in her pale-blue party dress, took a step forward. The seven-year-old girl looked directly at Camilla, bypassing the terrifying crowd of adults. Tears gathered rapidly along Alice’s lower eyelids, making her eyes shine brilliantly. Her inner brows lifted with a profound, wounded confusion rather than anger.
"You gave my brother away," Alice said softly.
The childish American accent sliced through the heavy silence, exposing the absolute, monstrous cruelty of the woman in the champagne silk gown.
Soren froze. His entire body went rigid, the breath catching in his broad chest. His cold eyes remained lowered toward the bassinet for a brief, incredibly still beat as the reality of his missing son cemented itself in his mind.

Slowly, terrifyingly, Soren raised his gaze. The movement was predatory, his eyes moving first toward Camilla, followed by a slight, deliberate turn of his head. His sharply defined jaw firmed until the bone threatened to snap under the pressure. His mouth became completely still, settling into a hard, unforgiving line.
He held Camilla’s eyes in a cold, unwavering silence that promised absolute destruction. The mafia boss said nothing. His silence was infinitely more dangerous than a scream, stripping away her diamonds, her satin gown, and her lies, exposing the cruel, power-hungry monster trembling beneath. Every single guest in the room remained hyper-attentive, paralyzed by the overwhelming, lethal energy radiating from Soren Blackwell.
