Chapter 13

Soren crossed the office in two massive strides, gripping the handle of the steel door. It was locked. He didn't hesitate. He raised his boot and delivered a devastating, bone-shattering kick directly to the locking mechanism. The heavy metal buckled and tore, the door swinging violently inward.
The small, windowless room was lit only by a single, bare bulb hanging from the ceiling. In the center of the room, resting on a folding table, was a standard baby carrier.
Soren froze. The terrifying apex predator vanished entirely, replaced by a desperate, terrified father. He dropped his assault rifle onto the concrete floor, ignoring the heavy clatter.
He rushed to the table, his broad shoulders bunching beneath his tactical gear. He peered into the carrier.
Six-month-old Theo was awake, wrapped tightly in a thick, knitted blanket. His tiny, fair face was pale, and his lower lip was trembling, but he was unharmed. When the infant saw his father’s familiar face, he let out a small, fragile whimper, reaching up with tiny, grasping hands.
"Are you safe now, my son?" Soren murmured, his deep voice cracking with profound, overwhelming emotion.
He reached into the carrier with his large, tattooed hands, lifting the small bundle with impossible gentleness. He pulled Theo tightly against his chest, burying his face in the infant's soft hair, inhaling the sweet, innocent scent that he had feared he would never smell again.
A heavy, shuddering breath tore through Soren's broad chest. The tears he had suppressed for hours finally spilled over, a testament to the agonizing terror he had endured. He held his son fiercely, the absolute, unyielding power of his love eclipsing the violence that surrounded them.
"Boss," Marcus called out softly, appearing in the doorway of the office. The security chief was covered in soot, but his expression was profoundly relieved. "The warehouse is secure. All hostiles are neutralized."
"Will you ensure... Thorne's body is returned to Camilla's father?" Soren asked, his voice returning to a low, lethal hum as he turned to face his lieutenant. "Will you attach a message informing him that his entire syndicate will be dismantled by midnight?"
May you like
"With pleasure, Mr. Blackwell," Marcus nodded fiercely.
"Shall we go home, Theo?" Soren asked, looking down at the infant in his arms.
