Chapter 20 - The Eternal Guard

The winter snow finally arrived in Pine Creek, blanketing the rolling hills in a pristine, quiet white.
The farmhouse was warm, filled with the laughter of visiting veterans, children, and old comrades.
The National Veterans Alliance had grown into a permanent, unbreakable pillar of strength and justice.
Chapters were now active in every state, protecting soldiers and ensuring no veteran ever walked alone.
I rolled my wheelchair to the edge of the front porch, looking out over the quiet, snow-covered driveway.
My service to my country had taken my legs, but it had never taken my sense of purpose or duty.
Courtroom 4B was a distant memory now, replaced by a nation that had been forced to remember its promise.
The folded documents in my coat had changed history, but it was the courage behind them that won the war.
General Isaac Reed stepped out onto the porch, pulling a heavy wool coat tightly around his shoulders.
"Thinking about the journey, Lena?" Reed asked gently, standing beside my chair.
"I was just thinking about the ones who didn't make it back," I replied quietly, my gaze drifting upward.
"The nineteen soldiers I buried under my command in Al-Anbar."
"They would be damn proud of what you accomplished here, Colonel," Reed said, placing a warm hand on my shoulder.
"We carried their memory through the fire, Isaac," I whispered, smiling as the snow fell softly around us.

"And as long as we draw breath, the line will hold."
The snowy wind whispered through the tall pine trees, sounding like a silent, eternal salute.
