Chapter 9 - The House of Cards Collapses

The bedroom doors were thrown open with explosive force as four tactical officers in tactical vests swarmed the room with assault rifles raised.
"Federal agents! Nobody move! Hands where we can see them!" the lead officer shouted.
Raymond slowly raised his hands, his posture dignified despite his hospital gown.
"Stand down, officers," a commanding voice echoed from the hallway.
Arthur Vance walked into the room, his long grey coat billowing behind him, flanked by two senior detectives from the state attorney general's office.
Vance stopped dead in his tracks the moment his eyes landed on Raymond standing upright.
The old lawyer’s eyes welled with tears as he stepped forward, grabbing Raymond's shoulder in disbelief.
"Raymond... my God, they told me you were brain-dead," Vance whispered, his voice cracking with emotion.
"I was kept alive by the courage of this young woman, Arthur," Raymond said, gesturing toward me and Theodore.
"Christopher and Wallace orchestrated the entire thing."
"The proof is right there on the floor."
I picked up the red ledger and the blue thumb drive from the side table and handed them directly to Arthur Vance.
"The financial records of his offshore accounts and the exact records of the neuro-toxin purchases are all on that drive, Mr. Vance," I said.
"And the contaminated sheets soaked with Dr. Wallace's paralytic agent are hidden beneath the shed in the garden."
One of the federal agents knelt beside Christopher, who was weeping in agony on the floor, and roughly wrenched his arms behind his back.
The metallic click of the handcuffs sounded like sweet music in the tense air.
"Christopher Winslow, you are under arrest for attempted capital murder, corporate fraud, and conspiracy," the agent announced coldly.
Christopher glared at me with pure, unadulterated venom as he was hoisted to his feet.
"You ruined everything, you penniless parasite!" Christopher spat, struggling against the agent's iron grip.
"You were supposed to be nobody!"
Raymond stepped directly into Christopher's face, his towering presence utterly crushing the younger man's spirit.
"She is more of a Winslow than you will ever be, Christopher," Raymond said with icy finality.
"Take this garbage out of my sight."
The agents dragged Christopher and the groaning Dr. Wallace out of the room, their protests fading down the marble corridors.
Arthur Vance turned to Raymond, shaking his head in sheer wonder.
"The board was fifteen minutes away from executing the proxy transfer, Raymond."
"If Nora hadn't called my burner line, everything you spent thirty years building would have been liquidated by tomorrow afternoon."
Raymond walked slowly toward Theodore’s crib, lifting my son gently into his arms.
Theodore looked up at the towering millionaire, gurgling happily and reaching for Raymond's silver hair.
"She didn't just save my company, Arthur," Raymond murmured, his eyes shining with profound warmth.
May you like
"She saved my soul."
"Call the press, call the board, and tell them Raymond Winslow is very much alive."
