Chapter 10 - The Convergence at Red Rocks

By five in the morning, the rain had tapered off into a freezing, razor-thin mountain sleet that glazed the asphalt driveways in black ice.

Inside the subterranean armory of Vale House, seven men stood in silence around a stainless-steel workbench.

These were the old guard—men who had carried rifles for Adrien’s family across three decades of gangland history.

Caleb Rourke stood at the head of the table, distributing tactical vests, thermal optics, and high-capacity drum magazines for the suppressed carbines.

On the main display screen above the workbench, the live radar feeds from the Denver commercial flight path glowed in bright green pulses.

Two low-flying rotorcraft without transponders had just lifted off from a private runway in Broomfield, heading southwest toward the foothills at two hundred knots.

"They're coming in low through the canyon to avoid the Federal Aviation Administration's primary radar," Caleb explained, pointing to the glowing flight corridor.

"They’ll touch down on the upper lawn near the helipad at precisely six-fifteen."

"What about the ground assault team?" one of the veteran soldiers asked, racking the bolt of an assault rifle.

"Six tactical SUVs are staging at the mouth of Bear Creek Canyon," Caleb replied.

"They're carrying local tactical gear and fraudulent federal warrants signed by an administrative judge on Victor’s payroll."

Adrien walked into the armory, wearing a heavy black tactical parka over a Kevlar vest.

In his hands, he carried the encrypted federal USB drive and a portable satellite uplink terminal.

"We aren't fighting a defensive war on this lawn, Caleb," Adrien announced, his voice cutting through the hum of the air handlers like a razor.

"If we fight them inside this house, a stray round will eventually find Elena and Mia."

"We are moving the battlefield."

Caleb frowned, looking up from his weapons rack.

"Where?"

"To the Red Rocks Amphitheatre access road," Adrien said flatly.

"The narrow gorge where the canyon walls pinch down to a two-lane mountain pass."

"They expect this house to be asleep, trapped in chaos after the poisoning and the basement strike."

"They don't know that Victor broke."

"They don't know that we have Mateo’s ledger."

Adrien turned to the satellite terminal and slotted the federal USB drive into the decryption module.

"Before Mateo died, he didn't just log the transactions," Adrien said, looking at the assembled men.

"He kept the encrypted audio recordings of every telephone conversation he had with Special Agent Miller and Hector Salazar."

"I just transmitted the complete uncompressed archive directly to the office of the United States Attorney General in Washington and the Denver Post's investigative desk."

"By six in the morning, the entire state of Colorado will know that the regional task force is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Sierra cartel."

The men in the room exchanged wide, grim glances.

This was no longer a gang dispute.

This was a scorched-earth strike against an entire corrupted political apparatus.

"What do we do with Victor?" Caleb asked, his hand resting on the hilt of his tactical knife.

"Victor rides in the lead vehicle," Adrien said without a shred of mercy in his voice.

"He is going to open the radio channel and tell his federal friends that the package has been secured and that we are transporting the ledger down the mountain in an armored Suburban."

"He will lead them straight into the choke point at the bottom of the gorge."

Adrien walked to the heavy steel door that led back to the panic bunker.

Through the observation window, he saw Elena sitting up in bed, softly singing a Spanish lullaby while Mia slept peacefully in her arms, completely oblivious to the war that was about to erupt across the mountain pass.

Adrien checked the chamber of his custom rifle, released the bolt forward with a sharp metallic clatter, and looked at his men.

"Mateo Torres died protecting my life six years ago," Adrien said, his eyes burning with the cold fire of an absolute king.

"Today, we bury the men who killed him."

"Move out."
