Chapter 18 - The Legacy of the Bloodline

By six o'clock that evening,

Harbor Nine was operating at full capacity,

processing record cargo volumes under the glare of industrial floodlights.

I returned to my penthouse office in Manhattan,

tired but energized by the victory.

However,

as I reviewed the detailed digital logs extracted from the server attack,

I noticed a disturbing anomaly.

The Trojan script used by the Rossi family hadn't been launched from an external hacking hub.

It had been authorized using an old,

dormant internal security credential created twenty-five years ago.

A credential registered to the name of Dominic Vale.

Dominic Vale was Adrian's uncle—the older brother of Adrian's father,

a ruthless syndicate boss who was believed to have died in a boating explosion off the coast of Miami in 1999.

My hands froze over the keyboard.

"Marcus,"

I called through the intercom.

Marcus stepped into the office within seconds.

"Run a complete historical audit on the Vale Family Asset Management Trust,"

I ordered,

my voice barely above a whisper.

"Focus specifically on the secondary bearer bond reserves created prior to the year 2000."

Marcus looked puzzled but immediately accessed the encrypted databases.

For twenty minutes,

the room was silent except for the rapid clicking of keys.

Then,

Marcus stopped,

his expression turning pale as he stared at his screen.

"Mrs. Vale..."

Marcus said,

his voice strained.

"Look at this."

I walked around my desk and looked over his shoulder.

Deep within the foundation archives of the trust lay an active offshore ledger in Liechtenstein.

Every month for the past fifteen years,

a transfer of fifty thousand dollars had been automatically routed from Vale Meridian's contingency funds to a private account in Zurich.

The account was co-signed by Adrian Vale...

and Dominic Vale.

Dominic wasn't dead.

He had faked his death twenty-seven years ago to escape a federal grand jury indictment,

leaving his younger brother and eventually Adrian to run the family's public operations in New York,

while he pulled the strings from a luxurious estate in Europe.

He was the phantom patriarch.

The true architect of the Vale criminal enterprise.

And he was the one who had provided Sloane Bennett and the Rossi family with the internal codes to execute the Harbor Nine sabotage.

"He's been leeching off this company for decades,"

I whispered,

a fierce,

unyielding anger burning in my chest.

"Adrian wasn't just a corrupt CEO."

"He was a puppet for his uncle."

"What are your orders,

Mrs. Vale?"

Marcus asked,

his hand resting near his sidearm.

"Does Dominic know we found this account?"

"Not yet,"

I replied,

my mind working at light speed,

assembling a legal trap more devastating than the one that brought down Adrian.

"He thinks he is safe in Switzerland,"

"protected by bank secrecy laws and thirty-year-old ghosts."

"We are going to use his own greed to draw him into the open."

I sat down at my desk and opened a draft for a massive offshore asset liquidation order.

"We are freezing the Zurich contingency fund tomorrow morning,"

I told Marcus.

"And we are redirecting the entire fifty-million-dollar balance into a public escrow account in New York."

May you like

"If Dominic wants his blood money,"

"he will have to come to Manhattan to claim it."
