Chapter 5 - The Dawn of a Dangerous New Reality

I woke up very slowly,

the heavy,

thick fog of the powerful painkillers clinging stubbornly to my tired,

confused mind.

The first thing I registered was the absolute,

luxurious softness of the massive bed beneath me,

the silk sheets wrapping around my sore body like a gentle,

warm embrace.

I carefully blinked my eyes open,

wincing slightly at the bright,

golden morning sunlight streaming beautifully through the towering floor-to-ceiling windows of the massive bedroom.

My left arm felt heavy,

encased completely in the thick white cast,

resting safely on top of a soft,

plump down pillow.

I slowly sat up,

looking around the incredibly lavish,

beautifully decorated room,

realizing quickly that I was entirely alone in the massive space.

The walls were painted a deep,

calming shade of emerald green,

with dark mahogany furniture and stunning,

classic oil paintings creating an atmosphere of refined,

quiet elegance.

A soft,

gentle knock on the heavy wooden door suddenly broke the peaceful silence,

making me jump nervously,

my heart instantly racing with leftover,

instinctive panic.

"Come in,"

I called out tentatively,

pulling the thick silk sheets securely up to my chest,

suddenly hyper-aware of the oversized,

black silk button-down shirt someone had carefully dressed me in.

The door clicked open,

and a petite,

kind-faced woman in a neat,

traditional maid's uniform stepped quietly into the bright room,

pushing a silver cart loaded heavily with delicious,

steaming food.

"Good morning,

Miss Lena,"

she said cheerfully,

her voice carrying a slight,

musical Italian accent as she rolled the cart smoothly over to the edge of the massive bed.

"Mr. Moretti requested that I bring you a hearty,

nutritious breakfast as soon as you finally woke up,

and he asked me to inform you that he will be up to see you shortly."

The smell of fresh bacon,

fluffy scrambled eggs,

and rich,

dark coffee made my empty stomach rumble loudly,

reminding me violently that I had not eaten anything solid in nearly two stressful days.

"Thank you,"

I murmured softly,

watching quietly as she skillfully arranged a beautiful breakfast tray carefully across my lap,

ensuring perfectly that my broken arm remained entirely undisturbed.

"Who dressed me,"

I asked suddenly,

a flush of deep,

embarrassed heat rushing rapidly up my pale neck,

looking down nervously at the expensive black silk shirt I was wearing.

The maid smiled warmly,

pouring a cup of hot coffee with practiced,

elegant precision.

"Mr. Moretti handled it personally,

Miss,"

she answered smoothly,

her tone completely neutral,

betraying no judgment or surprise whatsoever.

"He explicitly forbade anyone else from entering your private quarters last night,

insisting fiercely that you needed absolute,

undisturbed peace."

My cheeks burned brightly at the shocking thought of the dangerous Mafia Boss carefully,

gently changing my blood-stained clothes,

a task so deeply intimate,

yet performed with such absolute,

unquestionable authority.

Before I could ask another nervous question,

the heavy bedroom door swung open again,

and Vincent strode confidently into the sunny room,

bringing a sudden,

electric charge directly into the quiet atmosphere.

He was dressed flawlessly in a dark charcoal suit,

no tie,

the top two buttons of his crisp white shirt left casually open,

revealing a tantalizing,

small glimpse of dark,

intricate ink trailing across his muscular chest.

"Leave us,"

Vincent commanded quietly,

and the maid instantly bowed her head respectfully,

slipping silently out of the large room and closing the heavy door securely behind her.

Vincent walked slowly toward the bed,

his dark,

calculating eyes sweeping carefully over my flushed face,

checking thoroughly for any lingering signs of pain or severe distress.

"Did you sleep well,"

he asked smoothly,

pulling a heavy wooden chair effortlessly across the plush carpet,

sitting down extremely close to the side of my bed.

"Yes,"

I answered truthfully,

taking a small,

nervous sip of the hot,

rich coffee,

feeling incredibly small under his intense,

unwavering gaze.

"What happens now,

Vincent,"

I finally asked,

using his first name cautiously,

testing the terrifying,

unknown boundaries of our bizarre,

new relationship.

His eyes darkened slightly at the sound of his name leaving my lips,

a small,

almost imperceptible smirk touching the corners of his handsome,

dangerous mouth.

"Now,

you heal,"

he stated simply,

leaning forward slightly,

resting his large elbows casually on his muscular knees.

"And while you heal,

I will systematically,

ruthlessly dismantle absolutely every single aspect of your miserable former life,

erasing your pathetic husband completely from the face of the earth."

I stopped breathing for a second,

staring at him in shock,

realizing that his casual,

calm threat was an absolute,

unbreakable guarantee of pure violence.

"He has friends,"

I whispered nervously,

my hands trembling slightly as I set the coffee cup carefully back down on the silver tray,

"Bad people,

people who deal dirty drugs,

they will come looking for him,

and they might come looking for me."

Vincent let out a low,

dark,

humorous chuckle,

a sound completely devoid of any real joy,

filled entirely with dangerous,

lethal arrogance.

"Let them come,

Lena,"

he murmured softly,

reaching out slowly to brush a stray lock of hair gently away from my bruised forehead,

his touch burning my skin like a gentle,

electric spark.

"I am the monster that the bad people hide from in the dark,

and anyone who even dares to whisper your name with ill intent,

will quickly find themselves drowning completely in their own blood."

He leaned back slightly,

his dark eyes locking intensely with mine,

a terrifying,

thrilling promise radiating heavily from his powerful,

immovable presence.

"Rest now,

my sweet,

broken bird,

because when your wings finally heal,

we have a very long,

May you like

beautifully violent road entirely ahead of us."

Please let me know when you are ready,
