Chapter 20 - FOREVER BOUND IN SILK AND TEARS

The wedding took place the following spring in a private glass conservatory overlooking the rugged Maine coastline.
It was an intimate gathering of close friends,
trusted colleagues,
and family—no press,
no corporate politics,
just pure,
unscripted joy.
As I stood before the altar in a cascading lace gown,
looking into Alexander’s piercing gray eyes,
the past felt like a distant,
faded dream.
I thought back to that forty-second voice message at JFK Airport that had shattered my world.
If Preston hadn't been a coward,
if he hadn't ended things in the most cowardly way imaginable,
I never would have turned around.
I never would have grabbed Alexander's immaculate Brioni lapel.
I never would have cried my heart out on a stranger's shoulder.
Fate had broken my heart only to rebuild it into something infinitely stronger,
deeper,
and more magnificent than I ever could have imagined.
“Do you,
Alexander,
take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife?
” the officiant asked clearly.
“I do,
” Alexander replied,
his deep voice ringing out with absolute certainty.
“And do you,
Eve,
take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband?
”
“I do,
” I smiled through happy tears.
“You may kiss the bride,
” the officiant announced.
Alexander pulled me gently into his arms,
his lips meeting mine in a kiss that echoed all the passion,
resilience,
and triumph of our journey together.
The applause from our guests swelled around us like a warm wave.
Later,
during the reception dinner,
Alexander leaned over to whisper in my ear as we watched the sunset over the ocean.
“Still think I’m bad at hugging?
” he teased softly,
a mischievous spark in his gray eyes.
I laughed,
resting my head happily against his broad shoulder—the exact same shoulder that had caught my tears at the airport terminal.
“You’ve improved significantly,
Mr.
Sterling,
” I whispered back.
“Good,
” he murmured,
tightening his arms around me.
“Because you’re stuck with me for eternity.
”
And as I looked out at the horizon,
wrapped in the arms of the man who had changed my entire universe,
May you like
I knew I would never,
ever want to let go.
