Chapter 15 - THE WHISPERS OF TOMORROW

Morning light filtered softly through the massive penthouse windows,
painting the minimalist interior in warm shades of gold and amber.
I woke up wrapped in crisp white cotton sheets on a sprawling king-size bed.
Alexander was standing by the glass partition,
wearing a dark silk bathrobe,
holding a cup of black coffee while watching the sun rise over Boston harbor.
I sat up quietly,
pulling the sheet over my shoulders,
relishing the surreal peace of the morning.
He must have heard me move,
because he turned around immediately,
a warm,
affectionate smile breaking across his face.
“Good morning,
” he said softly,
walking over toward the bed.
“Morning,
” I replied,
my voice raspy with sleep.
He sat down on the edge of the mattress,
handing me a steaming mug of coffee.
“Did you sleep well?
”
“Better than I have in three years,
” I admitted honestly,
taking a sip.
“No nightmares about voice messages?
” he teased gently.
I laughed,
shaking my head.
“Preston feels like a lifetime ago.
Almost like a bad movie I watched years ago.
”
“Good,
” Alexander said,
his expression turning serious as he took my free hand in his.
“Because I want you to know something,
Eve.
What happened last night wasn't just a fleeting moment of weakness or comfort.
I meant every second of it.
”
“So did I,
” I whispered,
looking into his steady gray eyes.
“I know my board of directors will raise eyebrows if we make this official,
” he continued,
a dry smirk touching his lips.
“They expect their ruthless CEO to date ice queens and socialites,
not brilliant financial analysts who ruin designer suits.
”
“Let them talk,
” I smiled defiantly.
“I’ve already dismantled an industrial spy ring in this company.
I think I can handle a few gossiping executives.
”
Alexander chuckled,
leaning down to press a tender kiss against my forehead.
“That’s my girl,
” he murmured.
“Now drink your coffee,
because we have a multi-million-dollar acquisition meeting in two hours,
and my lead analyst is currently sitting in my penthouse in a bathrobe.
”
May you like
I swatted playfully at his arm,
laughing as I tossed off the sheets to get ready.
