Chapter 3 - The Sanctuary on Fifth AvenueWhile Eunice Whitmore and Dr. Tillman were being processed at the federal precinct, my private security teams executed simultaneous search warrants on Marnie Whitmore’s temporary safe-house apartment in Queens.

Marnie—Lena’s younger sister, whom Eunice had framed as "unhinged"—was found locked inside a small room, bruised and terrified, having been held by Eunice’s hired private security agents after she attempted to bring Vera and Violet back to me three days earlier.
When Marcus Vance broke down the door, Marnie collapsed into his arms, weeping frantically: "Is Brett here?! Did he find the girls?! I left them near his hotel site because Eunice’s men were tracking my car!"
"The girls are safe, Marnie," Marcus assured her gently, wrapping a warm coat around her shoulders. "Brett has them at Saint Jude's Private Pavilion."
By 3:00 AM, Marnie was brought to the private medical suite at Saint Jude's Hospital.
I sat in a velvet armchair beside a large double hospital bed where Valerie, Vera, and Violet were all sleeping peacefully under warm blankets, their tiny hands intertwined, their rosy cheeks blooming under IV fluids and pediatric care.
Marnie walked into the room softly, her eyes filling with tears as she looked at the three sleeping girls.
"Brett..." Marnie whispered, collapsing onto her knees beside my chair. "I’m so sorry... I tried to bring them to you five years ago, but Mom threatened to put me in an asylum and take the girls away to an overseas adoption agency if I ever spoke to you."

I reached down, taking my sister-in-law’s hands into mine, pulling her up into a warm, protective embrace.
"You kept them alive, Marnie," I promised softly, my voice thick with emotion. "You protected Lena's daughters. You are safe now, and so are they."
