Chapter 12 - the ultimatum

Nola calmly opened the envelope in her executive office. Inside was a formal subpoena to testify before a senate committee, accompanied by an implicit ultimatum: hand over the management rights of the foundation, or face fabricated evasion charges.

Her head of security stepped into the office, placing a thick dossier on the mahogany desk. Maintaining a terrifyingly cold composure, Nola's face was a mask of absolute, unyielding stone. She operated flawlessly and lethally.

"Vance has bribed half of the committee members," her security chief reported, his voice containing a low rumble of cold indignation. "He has prepared a dirty media campaign to smear our family's honor before the hearing takes place."

Nola stood up, her brown eyes flashing with a razor-sharp glint. The queen of the corporate empire had never backed down before any extortionist, no matter how immense a political power facade that person secretly hid behind.
