Chapter 8 - The Geneva ProtocolsForty-eight hours later. Geneva, Switzerland.

The private clinic was hidden deep within the Swiss Alps, surrounded by towering snow-capped peaks and heavy security perimeters. Unlike the dark, Gothic architecture of the DeLuca estate, this facility was sleek, modern, and bathed in natural sunlight.

Alessia sat in a state-of-the-art hover-chair, looking out at the panoramic view of the mountains. Her right leg was encased in a bio-neural feedback brace, glowing with soft blue light.

The door opened, and Valerio walked in. His shoulder was bandaged, wearing a clean charcoal suit. He carried two cups of hot coffee.

He handed one to her and kissed the top of her head. "How are you feeling?"

"Dr. Cole said the brace is stabilizing the nerve toxin," she said softly, taking a sip. "I can wiggled my toes this morning, Valerio. Just a little bit."

A rare, genuine smile touched Valerio’s lips. "That's my girl."

"What happened to Eleanor?" she asked cautiously.

Valerio’s expression hardened slightly. "She is currently in a high-security federal prison in Florence, awaiting trial for treason, attempted murder, and illegal weapons trafficking. The DeLuca syndicate is being dismantled... by me."

Alessia turned her chair to face him. "Dismantled?"

"I signed the handover papers yesterday," Valerio revealed, sitting on the edge of her medical bed. "Lucian survived the explosion, by the way. He walked out of the rubble with a broken rib and a smile. He's currently in Zurich, liquidating our family's assets and converting them into legitimate charitable foundations."

Alessia stared at him in disbelief. "You gave up your empire? The Mafia... it was your family legacy."

"It was a curse," Valerio said, taking her hand and holding it tight. "It almost cost me you. No empire is worth that."

Just then, the main doors of the room slid open. Dr. Cole walked in, holding a digital tablet with a serious expression.

"Valerio, Alessia... the final neurological blood scan results are back," Dr. Cole said.

Alessia tensed up. "Is the toxin gone?"

"The toxin was never a poison, Alessia," Dr. Cole explained, projecting a 3D hologram of her DNA sequence into the center of the room. "We misread the chemical structure. It wasn't designed to destroy your nervous system. It was an activation sequence."

Valerio stood up. "An activation sequence for what?"

"Her father didn't just hide financial codes in her DNA," Dr. Cole revealed, his voice shaking slightly. "Nikolai Sokolov was a genius geneticist before he became an accountant. The 'forty billion dollar vault' isn't money..."

Dr. Cole tapped the screen, magnifying a specific gene strand that was glowing bright blue.

"...It's a cure. A universal, synthetic antibody sequence capable of curing almost any degenerative neurological disease known to humanity. Her father hid the master formula inside her genetic code to keep it out of the hands of weapons manufacturers."

Alessia gasped, her hands flying to her mouth. "My father... he wasn't a criminal?"

"He was protecting the greatest medical breakthrough in human history," Dr. Cole said softly. "And the fall... the chair being pulled by Veronica... it triggered the sudden spike in your adrenaline that initiated the final stage of the sequence."

Valerio looked at Alessia, awe and reverence filling his eyes. "You aren't a victim, Alessia. You are the key to saving millions of lives."

Alessia looked down at her hands, tears of relief streaming down her face. "So... I'm not paralyzed forever?"

"No," Dr. Cole smiled. "In fact, with the proper therapy, you'll be walking within two weeks. Better than ever."

Valerio knelt beside her chair, taking both of her hands in his. "It seems my wife is far more dangerous—and precious—than I ever imagined."

"Are you afraid of me, Signor DeLuca?" she teased through her tears.

Valerio smiled, kissing her hands. "I am utterly terrified. And completely in love with you."

Suddenly, the encrypted satellite phone on Valerio’s belt began to buzz violently.

He pulled it out and answered. "Speak."

May you like

Lucian’s voice came through the speaker, frantic and breathless.

"Valerio... we have a massive problem. The news just broke in Russia."
