Chapter 12 - The Unrecorded Account

We sat around the kitchen island long after Emma had fallen asleep with her stuffed bear.

The house was dead silent, save for the hum of the refrigerator and the ticking wall clock.

The micro-card rested between two coffee mugs on the polished granite.

The other Adrian—who had taken the name Julian to give himself a separate existence—slid his laptop forward.

"If I plug this in, it could ping an external IP address," Julian warned, his fingers hovering over the keyboard.

"We don’t have a choice," I replied.

"Whoever dropped that knows where we visit Lily."

"They know her habits, and they know ours."

Julian nodded grimly and inserted the card through an air-gapped reader.

The screen flickered twice before a secure login prompt materialized.

It didn't ask for a password.

It asked for a biometric vocal frequency.

"Lily’s voice," Julian whispered, reading the interface code.

"The hash requires vocal modulation matching her vocal cords."

A chill ran down my spine.

Why would an encryption demand the voice of a woman who was buried six feet under?

"I have the voice memos," I said, my throat dry.

"From our anniversary three years ago."

"She recorded a song for Emma."

I pulled out my old phone, scrolling through the archived files until I found the recording.

My hands trembled as I brought the speaker close to Julian’s microphone.

Lily’s voice filled the kitchen, sweet, melodic, and alive.

*“The stars are shining just for you, my sweet little bird...”*

The prompt flashed green.

A single directory opened on the screen.

It contained dozens of medical logs, banking transaction sheets, and a video file dated two weeks before Lily’s fatal crash.

The financial records weren't connected to Richard Hale’s firm.

They bore the insignia of the Vance Family Trust.

Lily's own maiden family trust.

A trust that was supposed to have dissolved completely upon her mother’s death.

"Look at the transfers," Julian whispered, his face growing pale under the blue monitor glow.

"Millions of dollars flowing into offshore accounts every month."

"And the recipient name isn't an offshore shell corporation."

I leaned in, my vision blurring with sudden anger.

The recipient account was under my name.

Adrian Miller.

An account opened under my Social Security number seven years ago in Zurich.

An account I had never seen, touched, or known existed.

"Someone set you up as the financial mastermind long before the accidents began," Julian said.

"If Hale talks, or if the feds trace this, you won't look like the victim."

"You will look like the monster who orchestrated the entire project."
