Chapter 10 - The Dawn of Happy Flowers

The golden light of sunrise broke over the horizon of Lake Michigan,

casting a warm,

gentle amber glow across the frost-covered grounds of the Crosswell estate.

The heavy storm clouds that had plagued the city for days had finally dispersed,

leaving behind a crystal-clear blue sky.

Inside the grand estate,

the air was filled with the rich,

comforting scent of fresh coffee and warm blueberry pancakes.

Gideon sat at the long mahogany dining table,

wearing a soft gray sweater instead of his usual dark,

intimidating suits.

Across from him sat Clara and little Lily.

Lily’s cheeks were rosy,

and she was happily swinging her small feet beneath the chair while eating her breakfast.

Clara looked out the grand bay window at the quiet courtyard where workers were already repairing the iron gates.

"Is it really over?"

Clara asked softly,

setting her fork down on her plate.

Gideon looked at the young girl,

his eyes filled with a gentle warmth that had been absent for a very long time.

"Viktor Vance is gone,"

Gideon answered truthfully.

"And Senator Croft was arrested by federal agents at his home two hours ago based on your father's ledger."

"No one is ever going to hunt you or your sister again."

Clara let out a deep,

trembling sigh of relief,

a genuine smile finally breaking across her young face.

"What will happen to us now?"

she asked quietly.

Gideon reached across the table,

placing his large,

warm hand over Clara’s smaller one.

"My estate has five floors,

twelve bedrooms,

and more gardens than one man could ever care for,"

Gideon said gently.

"If you and Lily want to stay here,"

he continued,

"this house will be your home for as long as you live."

"You will go to the best schools,

you will be safe,

and you will never have to run through the rain again."

Lily stopped eating,

looking up at Gideon with bright,

curious eyes.

"Can we plant more flowers in the garden,

Mr. Gideon?"

Lily asked innocently.

Gideon smiled,

a tear glistening at the corner of his eye.

"We can plant an entire field of them,

little one,"

Gideon replied softly.

Later that afternoon,

Gideon walked down the stone path leading to the private garden behind his mansion.

The ground was cold,

but the winter sun was shining brightly overhead.

He carried a fresh wooden box filled with rich brown soil and small green seeds.

Clara and Lily walked beside him,

holding small gardening shovels in their hands.

They stopped near a stone bench situated under a large oak tree—Ren’s favorite spot in the entire world.

Together,

they knelt down on the soft earth,

digging small rows into the soil.

Gideon carefully opened a small paper packet labeled 'Yellow Sunflower Seeds'.

He handed a seed to Clara,

a seed to Lily,

and held one firmly in his own palm.

"Why do they always face the sun,

Daddy Gideon?"

Lily asked,

looking up at the bright sky.

Gideon looked down at the tiny seed in his hand,

remembering the sweet voice of his lost daughter from a year ago.

"Because,"

Gideon whispered softly,

placing the seed gently into the earth and covering it with warm soil,

"no matter how dark and heavy the storm gets,"

"they know that the light will always come back."

They finished planting the seeds together,

watering the fresh soil under the warm afternoon sun.

Gideon stood up,

placing a protective arm around Clara’s shoulder while holding little Lily’s hand in his own.

For twenty years,

Gideon Crosswell had built a life on fear,

shadows,

and violence.

But as he stood in the garden listening to the happy laughter of the two small girls beside him,

he knew that his dark legacy had finally ended.

A new chapter had begun—built not on blood,

May you like

but on hope,

family,
