Chapter 7 - The Boardroom Slaughter

The morning sun rose over the glittering skyline of the city,

casting a brilliant,

triumphant light across my massive corner office at Obsidian Holdings.

I sat comfortably in my plush leather chair,

sipping a cup of perfectly brewed,

expensive espresso,

while my eyes scanned the intricate financial reports displayed on my glowing monitors.

The stock market had just opened,

and the news of Daniel's company collapsing was already sending shockwaves through the financial sector,

making headlines on every major news network across the country.

"The Sterling Empire Crumbles Overnight,"

read the bold,

flashing text on the television screen mounted on the wall,

accompanied by a highly unflattering picture of Daniel looking confused and panicked.

I smiled,

a deep,

satisfying warmth spreading through my chest,

knowing that my meticulous,

three-year plan was finally executing with flawless precision.

Arthur walked into the office,

his footsteps silent on the thick carpet,

carrying a thick stack of finalized legal documents under his arm.

"Good morning,

Madam,"

he greeted politely,

placing the heavy folders onto my mahogany desk,

"the total liquidation of Sterling Enterprises is currently underway,

and the board of directors has been assembled in the main conference room,

exactly as you requested."

I placed my espresso cup down,

smoothing out the invisible wrinkles on my sharp,

tailored midnight-blue suit,

and stood up with a dangerous glint in my eyes.

"Excellent,"

I murmured softly,

"it is time to cut off the remaining infected branches of Daniel's pathetic little tree."

I walked out of my office,

flanked by Arthur and two massive,

intimidating security guards,

and marched down the long,

glass-walled corridor toward the boardroom.

As I pushed the heavy oak doors open,

the loud,

frantic chatter of twelve panicked executives instantly died down,

replaced by a thick,

suffocating silence.

These were the men who had laughed at me at corporate dinners,

the men who had helped Daniel hide his supposed infidelities,

the men who thought I was nothing but a beautiful,

brainless trophy wife.

Now,

they stared at me with wide,

terrified eyes,

their faces pale and sweating,

as I walked slowly to the head of the table and took my rightful seat.

"Good morning,

gentlemen,"

I said smoothly,

my voice dripping with cold,

calculated authority,

"I assume you all know why you have been summoned here today."

Greg,

the Chief Financial Officer and Daniel's closest confidant,

swallowed hard,

his hands shaking visibly as he tried to speak.

"Mrs. Sterling,"

he stammered nervously,

"we...

we had no idea about the corporate restructure,

Daniel never told us that Obsidian Holdings was the parent company,

we are willing to cooperate fully to save the business."

"Save the business?"

I laughed,

a sharp,

merciless sound that echoed off the glass walls,

"Greg,

you misunderstand the situation entirely,

I am not here to save Daniel's corrupt,

failing business,

I am here to bury it,

and I am here to bury all of you with it."

The executives gasped,

shifting uncomfortably in their seats,

exchanging panicked,

desperate glances with one another.

"For three years,"

I continued,

my tone turning sharp and lethal,

"I sat in the background,

playing the obedient wife,

while you all siphoned money from my silent investments to fund your lavish lifestyles,

your secret mistresses,

and your illegal offshore accounts."

I nodded at Arthur,

who immediately began passing out thick,

detailed dossiers to every single man at the table.

"Inside those folders,"

I explained,

watching their faces turn ashen as they opened the documents,

"is undeniable,

documented proof of your individual embezzlement,

fraud,

and corporate sabotage,

meticulously gathered by my private investigators over the last thirty-six months."

Greg dropped his folder,

the papers spilling out onto the polished wood,

his breathing becoming rapid and shallow as he realized his entire life was completely over.

"You...

you can't do this,"

Greg whispered,

tears welling up in his eyes,

"I have a family,

I have children in private school,

please,

have mercy!"

"Mercy?"

I leaned forward,

staring directly into his pathetic,

begging eyes,

"did Daniel have mercy when he struck me across the face yesterday?

Did any of you have mercy when you laughed behind my back while spending my money?

No,

you did not,

and therefore,

you will receive none from me."

I stood up,

straightening my jacket,

my expression completely devoid of any human sympathy.

"You are all officially terminated,

effective immediately,"

I declared coldly,

"your severances are denied,

your company assets are seized,

and Arthur has already forwarded copies of those folders to the federal authorities."

Chaos erupted in the boardroom,

grown men crying,

shouting,

and begging for a second chance,

but I simply turned my back on them and walked out the door.

The slaughter was complete,

May you like

the parasites had been removed,

and the true empire was finally entirely under my control.
