Chapter 10 - The Dawn of a Real Vow

Six months later, the early summer sun bathed the coast of Newport, Rhode Island, in pure gold.

The waves crashed rhythmically against the rocky cliffs below the private Ferrara oceanfront estate.

The air was sweet with the scent of blooming white hydrangeas, salt water, and summer breeze.

The grand lawn overlooking the Atlantic was adorned with hundreds of white rose arches and silk ribbons.

Two hundred guests sat on the lawn in elegant linen suits and pastel silk dresses.

There were no armed enforcers standing with hands on their holsters; there were no police radios crackling in the hedges.

Captains like Moretti sat beside federal attorneys, civil judges, and doctors from the Helena Ashford Foundation.

The entire world had shifted on its axis over the past half-year.

The Ashford name had been completely reclaimed from the mud of corporate crime and restored through genuine charity.

The foundation had already opened three shelters across the state, giving safety and medical independence to hundreds of survivors.

Marco stood at the altar beside the white floral arch, dressed in an ivory tuxedo, completely healed from his injuries.

He was laughing with Dante, who looked uncomfortably handsome in a tailored suit without his tactical vest.

Inside the bridal suite of the oceanfront mansion, I stood before the full-length mirror.

This time, the gown had not been selected by armed men in a backroom salon within ninety minutes.

It was a breathtaking masterpiece of off-the-shoulder French lace, designed specifically for my body.

The delicate lace sleeves draped gently over my arms, while the neckline rested comfortably below my collarbones.

It did not hide my scars; it framed them like delicate, silver embroidery on living skin.

I wore no heavy scarves, no high collars, and no diamond clasps to mask the reality of what I had survived.

My reflection showed a woman who stood tall, confident, radiant, and undeniably happy.

The door opened softly, and Marco stepped into the suite, holding a magnificent bouquet of white peonies and lavender.

"You look magnificent, Nora," Marco said, his voice brimming with genuine brotherly love.

"Nico is pacing the altar down there like a caged lion waiting for the gate to open."

"I think he's afraid you might change your mind and run off to Paris."

I laughed, taking the fragrant flowers from his hands.

"He knows better than that," I smiled, checking my pearl earrings in the mirror.

"I’ve fought through too much gunfire to let him off the hook now."

Marco offered his arm, his expression turning gentle and deeply sincere.

"Your father couldn't walk you down an aisle if he spent ten lifetimes trying," Marco said softly.

"Would you do me the honor of letting me walk my sister to my brother?"

A lump of sweet emotion formed in my throat as I looked at the young man whose life had become intertwined with mine.

"There is no one else in the world I would rather have by my side, Marco," I whispered.

I looped my arm through his, and together we walked down the grand marble staircase out toward the lawn.

The string quartet began playing a soft, sweeping melody that rose above the sound of the ocean waves.

The guests rose to their feet in unison, turning toward the stone pathway that led through the white arches.

At the end of the aisle stood Nico Ferrara.

He wore a midnight-blue tuxedo that made his broad shoulders look even more commanding.

When his eyes found mine, the breath audibly left his chest, and his eyes glistened with tears he didn't care to hide.

There was no darkness in him today; no thirst for vengeance, no burden of mafia betrayal.

There was only pure, unadulterated adoration for the woman walking toward him.

Marco walked me slowly down the petals of white roses, stopping just before the altar.

He placed my hand into Nico’s waiting palm and leaned in to kiss my cheek.

"Take care of her, Boss," Marco whispered with a grin.

"Or she’ll take the family away from you."

"She already owns it," Nico replied softly, never breaking eye contact with me.

We stood together beneath the canopy of white roses, the ocean breeze catching the edges of my veil.

The officiant, an elderly judge who had dedicated his career to constitutional reform, opened his book.

This time, there were no cold Latin chants, no hurried civil registrations, and no armed guards at the doors.

Nico took both of my hands in his, his calloused thumbs resting over the sapphire ring on my finger.

"Nora," Nico spoke, his voice deep, clear, and vibrating with absolute conviction.

"I met you on a night when I believed the world was made only of enemies, blood, and broken promises."

"I thought I could force you to pay for sins you never committed."

"Instead, you showed me what real courage looks like."

"You taught me that strength isn't found in the guns we carry, but in the truth we refuse to bury."

"You saved my brother, you healed my family, and you gave me a reason to build an empire of honor."

"I promise to stand before you as your shield, behind you as your support, and beside you as your equal."

"For every scar you carry, I will give you a thousand reasons to smile."

"You are my wife, my partner, and my sovereign, until my last breath leaves my body."

Tears slipped freely down my cheeks, warm and full of light, as I squeezed his hands.

"Nico," I spoke, my voice ringing out across the cliffs without a single tremor of fear.

"For ten years, I lived in silence, believing that survival meant disappearing into the shadows."

"I thought my life was over the night my father sold me to save himself."

"I never could have imagined that the man who was supposed to be my executioner would become my savior."

"You didn't look away from my broken pieces; you held them until they turned into armor."

"You gave me back my voice, my family's legacy, and my freedom."

"I take you today, not out of fear or blood debt, but with every piece of my soul."

"I choose you as my protector, my best friend, and the love of my life."

"Wherever you lead, I will stand with you, and together we will never be broken again."

The officiant wiped a tear from his own eye, smiling out at the gathered guests.

"By the power vested in me by love, truth, and this community," the officiant declared.

"I pronounce you husband and wife in the eyes of all who cherish justice."

"Nico, you may kiss your bride."

Nico reached forward, lifting the sheer veil from my face and tossing it gently back into the ocean breeze.

He cupped my jaw with both hands, his fingers warm, gentle, and infinitely steady.

He pulled me into him, and our lips met beneath the bright Rhode Island sun.

The crowd erupted into deafening cheers and applause, standing ovations echoing above the crash of the Atlantic waves.

Petals of white roses showered down over us as Nico lifted me into his arms, kissing me again until I was breathless with laughter.

We turned together to face the crowd, holding our hands high, our fingers tightly interlocked.

Behind us lay the dark shadows of the past: the locked study, the burning scars, the traitorous warehouse, and the prison cells.

Ahead of us lay an infinite horizon of ocean and sky, wide open and filled with promise.

I had been sold to a monster to settle an old blood debt.

And in his arms, I had found the kingdom where I would reign forever as queen.
