Chapter 14 - THE PENTHOUSE CONFRONTATION

Late one rainy Tuesday evening,
I sat alone in my private penthouse office on the fiftieth floor.
The city lights stretched out beneath me like a vast,
glittering ocean of infinite possibilities.
The security system chimed softly,
indicating an unauthorized breach on the service elevator level.
I didn't flinch or reach for a panic button; I calmly poured myself a cup of herbal tea.
Moments later,
the heavy oak double doors of my office swung open with a violent bang.
Standing in the doorway was Grant,
looking like a ghost risen from an open grave.
His clothes were damp and filthy,
his eyes wild and bloodshot with desperation and madness.
He took a staggering step forward,
whispering my name in a hoarse,
broken,
pathetic tone.
He fell to his knees on the imported Persian rug,
reaching out to grab the hem of my trousers.
He begged me for forgiveness,
claiming he had been bewitched,
tricked,
and betrayed by everyone.
He swore he still loved me,
that I was the only real thing he ever had in his life.
I looked down at him with cold detachment,
stirring my tea with a silver spoon.
I asked him if he remembered the day he brought Sloane into our home and laughed at my pain.
I asked him if he remembered the sound of the contract signing and his father’s mocking words.
Grant wept uncontrollably,
pressing his forehead against the cold floorboards in total submission.
I told him softly that love requires loyalty,
and ambition without honor destroys the soul.
I pressed the silent security call button on my sleek desk console.
Two towering private security guards entered the room silently within seconds.
I ordered them to remove the trespasser from the premises and hand him over to local authorities.
Grant screamed my name in agony as the guards hoisted him off the floor and dragged him away.
The heavy oak doors clicked shut behind them,
May you like
restoring absolute peace and silence to my sanctuary.
