Chapter 10 - A NEW BEGINNING

Two hours later.

The rain outside on Fifth Avenue had turned into a gentle drizzle. The streetlights reflected off the damp pavement like scattered diamonds.

Outside Le Miroir, the red carpet that had been set up for Victoria’s arrival was being rolled up by workers in yellow raincoats. Victoria Vance emerged from the restaurant alone, her head bowed down as paparazzi—who had caught wind of the canceled gala—flashed their cameras relentlessly in her face.

"Victoria! Is it true Vance Fashion is bankrupt?" "Victoria! Why was the Met Gala canceled?" "Victoria! Look over here!"

She pushed her way into a yellow taxi, shivering in her thin silk dress, stripped of her pride, her status, and her empire in a single evening.

Meanwhile, around the corner, a sleek black Maybach pulled up to the curb.

The driver quickly jumped out, holding a large black umbrella, and opened the rear door.

Maya stepped out of the side entrance of the building. She was no longer wearing the white restaurant shirt or the black apron. She wore a tailored black wool coat over a simple, elegant ivory blouse.

Beside her walked Sarah, the newly appointed General Manager of Le Miroir.

"Thank you for everything, Ms. Vanderbilt," Sarah said, her voice filled with deep gratitude. "We will completely reform the management culture here. Every employee will be treated with dignity."

"I know you will, Sarah," Maya smiled warmheartedly. "Respect isn't something reserved for the people who buy the champagne. It starts with the people who carry the glasses."

Maya stepped into the back seat of the Maybach.

As the car pulled smoothly away into the glowing heart of Manhattan, Maya looked out the tinted window at the skyline. She picked up her old plastic badge—MAYA – SERVER—and placed it neatly inside her leather briefcase alongside her corporate documents.

It was a reminder. A reminder that true power wasn't about throwing money, making threats, or wearing diamonds. True power was knowing who you were, standing firm in your dignity, and ensuring that justice always found its way to those who thought they were above it.

The city lights twinkled in the rain as Maya Vanderbilt smiled, ready for her next undercover assignment.
