Chapter 29

The safe house was quiet when Alessandro returned,
The smell of coffee and sleep hung in the air like a promise,
He found Rosalie sitting by the window, watching the sunrise,
She didn't look away as he entered, her expression unreadable,
"Is it over?" she asked, her voice barely a whisper,
"The immediate threat is gone," Alessandro said, sitting beside her,
"The cousins are in transit. They won't be coming back,"
"And Bianca?"
"She will be moved to a high-security psychiatric facility,"
"She will never be allowed near a child again,"
Rosalie nodded, but she didn't seem relieved,
She looked at the safe house, at the steel walls and the cameras,
"We can't stay here, Alessandro," she said,
"This place is just another cage, and Livia is growing up in it,"
"I know," he replied, taking her hand in his,
"I’ve spent the night thinking about where we go from here,"
"The cottage is gone. The city is poisoned,"
"We need to go somewhere where the Rizzano name means nothing,"
He pulled a set of passports from his jacket pocket,
They were new, with names he had chosen with Claire’s help,
Names that carried no history and no blood debt,
"We leave for the airport in two hours," Alessandro said,
"The jet is ready. We’re going to a small island in the Pacific,"
"No staff, no security teams, no family legacies,"
Rosalie looked at the passports, her fingers tracing the covers,
"Can we really just disappear?"
"We have to," Alessandro said, his voice cracking for the first time,
"I’ve signed the final papers to dissolve the Rizzano Trust,"
"The money is being moved into charitable foundations and blind trusts,"
"The company will be run by an independent board of trustees,"
"I am no longer the king, Rosalie. I am just a man,"
He felt a strange sensation in his chest, a lightness that was almost painful,
He was stripping himself of everything he had been taught to value,
The power, the influence, the fear that had been his armor,
He was walking into the light, and he was taking them with him,
Livia woke up a few minutes later, her eyes bright with sleep,
"Are we going home now, Daddy?" she asked,
"We are going to a new home, Livia," he said, picking her up,
"A home with big trees and a blue ocean,"
"And no grumpy water?"
"No grumpy water," he promised, smiling through his tears,
They packed their few belongings into small bags,
They left the safe house behind, its lights flickering out one by one,
As they drove to the airport, Alessandro looked at the city,
He saw the skyline he had helped shape, the streets he had ruled,
He saw the ghosts of his father and his ancestors in the glass towers,
But he didn't look back as they pulled onto the tarmac,
The jet was waiting, its engines humming a low, steady song,
Claire was there to say goodbye, her face a mask of professional pride,
"Good luck, Alessandro," she said, shaking his hand,
"I’ll handle the remaining details. You just stay hidden,"
"Thank you, Claire. For everything," he replied,
He walked up the stairs of the jet, Livia on his hip and Rosalie by his side,
As the plane took off, climbing high above the clouds,
Alessandro looked down at the shrinking world below,
He saw the Rizzano empire crumbling into the sea of history,
He saw the blood and the fire and the silence being washed away,
He was no longer a predator or a protector or a king,
He was just a father, holding his daughter’s hand as they flew toward the sun,
The war was over, and the peace was finally real,
Because he had realized that the greatest power wasn't in the crown,
It was in the courage to walk away from it.
