Chapter 7 - The Disbarment of Richard Sterling

Richard Sterling had always been a man who believed his own lies,
a man who thought his law degree made him untouchable,
smarter than the grieving widow he thought he could manipulate.
He sat in his lavish corner office,
surrounded by mahogany bookshelves,
staring out at the city skyline,
desperately trying to figure a way out of the massive fraud he had orchestrated.
He had drafted fake documents,
hidden assets in offshore accounts,
and willingly participated in the financial bleeding of my marital estate to fund his own illegitimate child.
But Richard didn't know that for the past thirteen years,
I had not only been tracking Victor's infidelities,
I had been systematically hacking into Richard's secure firm servers,
downloading every single corrupt email,
every illegal wire transfer,
and every forged signature.
I walked into the lobby of his prestigious law firm,
wearing a tailored charcoal suit,
my heels clicking sharply against the marble floor,
carrying a thick,
heavy leather briefcase.
The receptionist tried to stop me,
stammering about appointments,
but I simply walked past her,
pushing open the heavy oak doors to Richard's office without knocking.
He jumped up from his leather chair,
his face turning an ugly shade of grey,
his hands trembling as he saw the briefcase I placed deliberately on his immaculate desk.
"You cannot be here," Richard stuttered,
trying to sound authoritative,
but his voice cracked like a frightened child's.
"This is a private office,
and if you don't leave immediately,
I will call security and have you arrested for trespassing."
I didn't blink,
I didn't raise my voice,
I simply snapped the golden latches of the briefcase open,
the sound echoing sharply in the quiet room.
"I wouldn't call security,
Richard," I said with a cold,
hollow smile.
"In fact,
I think you should close the blinds,
lock the door,
and sit down before you pass out from what I am about to show you."
I pulled out a massive stack of printed emails,
bank statements,
and wire transfer confirmations,
spreading them across his desk like a morbid deck of cards.
"Section 412 of the penal code," I recited smoothly,
watching his eyes widen in terror as he recognized his own private correspondence.
"Conspiracy to commit wire fraud,
embezzlement of marital assets,
falsifying legal documents,
and breach of fiduciary duty."
Richard collapsed back into his chair,
all the air leaving his lungs,
staring at the undeniable proof of his ruined career.
"You have no proof," he whispered,
a pathetic,
weak attempt at denial.
"The boy is your son,
Richard," I stated plainly,
dropping the DNA test results right on top of the pile,
letting him see the ninety-nine percent match.
"You helped Victor steal millions from me,
so that you could secretly fund the lifestyle of your own mistress and your own bastard child,
making Victor foot the bill."
I leaned over the desk,
my face inches from his sweating forehead,
enjoying the smell of his absolute,
paralyzing fear.
"I have already sent copies of this entire file to the State Bar Association,
the District Attorney's office,
and the managing partners of this firm," I whispered.
Richard let out a strangled cry,
burying his face in his trembling hands,
realizing that his life was over,
his reputation destroyed,
his freedom hanging by a thread.
"You are going to prison,
Richard," I said,
closing my empty briefcase with a satisfying snap.
"And I am going to make sure that you lose every single penny you ever earned,
starting with a massive civil lawsuit that my son's legal team is filing as we speak."
I turned around,
walking toward the door,
leaving him sobbing at his desk,
a pathetic,
broken man who had finally met a monster much smarter than him.
By the time I reached the elevator,
May you like
I could hear the shouting of the senior partners rushing down the hallway,
the sounds of Richard's empire burning down right on schedule.
