Chapter 5 - The Public Execution of Grant Ashford

The Grand Ballroom of the Plaza was a sea of crystal chandeliers,

glimmering champagne flutes,

and high-society chatter.

Over two hundred of the most powerful people in the country were seated at round tables covered in white linen and gold centerpieces.

At eight-thirty,

the master of ceremonies took the stage,

his voice echoing through the massive sound system.

“Ladies and gentlemen,”

the MC announced,

“please welcome the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Ashford Hotel Group...

Mr. Grant Ashford!”

Polite applause erupted throughout the room.

Grant walked up the wooden stairs to the center stage,

adjusting his bow tie.

He tried to project confidence.

He tried to stand tall.

He adjusted the microphone on the podium,

looking out over the sea of wealthy donors,

journalists,

and board members.

In his pocket,

he held the speech he had prepared weeks ago.

The speech where he planned to announce a ‘historic global partnership’ with Al-Mansoor Capital—the public announcement that would initiate the fraudulent takeover of my family’s company.

He looked toward Table One,

where I sat alone.

I raised my champagne glass to him,

offering a calm,

serene nod.

Grant took a deep breath,

placing his handwritten notes on the lectern.

“Good evening,

distinguished guests,

honored board members,

and friends,”

Grant began,

his voice echoing through the speakers.

“Tonight,

as we gather to support the Ashford Children’s Foundation,

we celebrate not just the legacy of this great institution...”

“but the bright,

unprecedented future that lies ahead.”

He paused,

looking down at his notes.

“ tonight,

I am proud to announce a revolutionary expansion for Ashford-Vane Global.”

“An expansion that will redefine luxury hospitality across the middle east and asia...”

He signaled to the large high-definition projection screens hanging behind the stage.

Normally,

the screens would display high-resolution slides of luxury resort concepts and architectural blueprints.

Grant turned around,

pointing his remote control at the screen,

expecting to see the Al-Mansoor logo.

Instead,

the screens went completely black.

A murmur rippled through the audience.

Grant clicked the remote again,

frowning.

“Apologies,”

Grant said with a nervous chuckle,

turning back to the audience.

“It seems we have a small technical hiccup.”

Then,

the screens lit up.

It was not an architectural slide.

It was a high-resolution scan of a legal document.

A bank transfer statement from Bank Pictet in Zurich,

showing a wire transfer of $14,000,000.00 from the Ashford Heritage Trust directly into an offshore account owned by Vance Holdings Cayman Ltd.

The entire ballroom went dead silent.

Gasps echoed from Table Four,

where the chief legal officers and board members of Ashford Hotels were seated.

Grant’s face turned pure white.

He spun around,

staring at the massive screen in utter disbelief.

“What...

what is this?”

he stammered over the live microphone,

his voice shaking violently.

“Turn that off!

AV team,

turn that off right now!”

Before the technicians could react,

the screen changed again.

This time,

it displayed a magnified side-by-side comparison of my official legal signature alongside the blatant forgery Grant had submitted to Al-Mansoor Capital.

Stamped across the image in bold red letters was a official forensic audit document from Vance,

Sterling & Croft:

VERIFIED FRAUDULENT FORGERY.

The ballroom erupted into violent whispers.

Reporters scrambled to point their heavy cameras toward the stage.

Flashbulbs began popping frantically,

blinding Grant as he backed away from the podium.

“This is a mistake!”

Grant shouted into the microphone,

his voice cracking,

his composure completely shattered.

“This is a technical malfunction!

Someone hacked the system!”

Then,

a crystal-clear audio recording began playing through the high-end speakers of the Plaza Hotel.

It was a phone call recorded three weeks ago,

captured by my private security team:

GRANT’S VOICE: “Don’t worry about Vivienne,

Piper. She’s clueless. Once the Al-Mansoor deal goes through on gala night, her voting shares are wiped out. By the time her lawyers figure out the Cayman accounts, we’ll already be living in Dubai with the fourteen million.”

PIPER’S VOICE: “And what about her penthouse?”

GRANT’S VOICE: “I’ll file for emergency separation based on mental instability. The board will side with me. She’ll have nothing.”

The audio ended.

The silence in the Plaza Ballroom was absolute,

heavy,

and suffocating.

Every single eye in the room turned from the terrified man on the stage...

to me.

I slowly stood up from my chair at Table One.

The emerald-green silk of my gown rustled softly against the floor.

The sculpted gold collar around my neck glinted like armor under the crystal chandeliers.

I did not rush.

I did not lose my composure.

I walked slowly up the stairs of the stage,

my heels clicking with absolute authority.

Grant looked at me as I approached,

his eyes wide with horror,

his mouth hanging open like a dying fish.

“Vivienne...

please...”

he whimpered,

stepping back until his spine hit the wooden backboard of the stage display.

“Please don't do this...”

I ignored him completely.

I stepped up to the podium,

adjusted the microphone to my height,

and looked out over two hundred shocked,

silent faces.

“Good evening,

everyone,”

I said,

my voice calm,

resonant,

and perfectly clear.

“I apologize for the slight change in tonight’s program.”

“My late father,

Arthur Vane,

taught me that true leadership requires transparency,

integrity,

and the courage to remove toxic elements from an organization.”

I turned my head slightly,

glancing at Grant out of the corner of my eye.

“Effective immediately,”

I announced,

“Mr. Grant Ashford has been removed from his position as Chief Executive Officer of Ashford-Vane Global.”

“His executive authority has been revoked.”

“His corporate assets have been frozen.”

“And his marriage to the Vane family legacy...”

“is officially terminated.”

At that exact moment,

four plainclothes federal agents walked up the steps of the stage from both sides.

The lead agent pulled out a silver pair of handcuffs and a folded arrest warrant.

“Grant Ashford,”

the agent said loudly,

his voice carrying over the silence of the room.

“You are under arrest for federal bank fraud,

interstate wire fraud,

grand larceny,

and corporate embezzlement.”

“You have the right to remain silent.”

Grant tried to pull away,

his hands flailing wildly.

“No!

Wait!

Vivienne,

tell them!”

he shrieked as the cold steel handcuffs clicked tightly around his wrists.

“Vivienne!

Look at me!

We can fix this!

Vivienne!”

The agents pulled him around,

forcing his arms behind his back,

and began marching him off the stage.

The ballroom exploded into an inferno of camera flashes,

shouted questions from financial reporters,

and standing ovations from board members who had long suspected Grant’s incompetence.

As Grant was led past my podium,

his eyes met mine one last time.

He was sobbing,

his hair disheveled,

his Tom Ford tuxedo rumpled,

his dignity completely destroyed in front of the entire world.

I leaned into the microphone one last time.

“Enjoy the rest of your evening,

everyone,”

I said with a gentle,

chilling smile.

“The real work of the Ashford Foundation begins tonight.”

I turned,

May you like

leaving the stage with my head held high,

stepping past the fallen thief who had dared to underestimate me,
