Chapter 10 - Breaking the Silence

The rain had stopped by the time the SUV pulled up the winding driveway of the Vale estate.
The sun was just beginning to peak over the eastern horizon,
painting the gray clouds in shades of soft gold and deep magenta.
The estate stood quiet,
grand,
and safe once more.
Julian Moretti’s reign was over;
his capos had surrendered the moment news spread that Dominic had dismantled his operation in less than twenty minutes.
Marcus opened the car door,
offering a respectful nod to Ruby as she stepped out onto the damp driveway.
"We'll secure the outer perimeter,
boss,
" Marcus said smoothly.
"Take all the time you need."
Dominic nodded once,
taking Ruby's hand into his own as they walked up the grand stone steps and entered the vast foyer of the mansion.
The house was dead silent.
The high marble ceilings,
the antique console tables,
the long dark hallways—everything sat exactly where Dominic had left it years ago.
But it no longer felt like a tomb.
It felt like a blank canvas waiting for music.
Dominic led Ruby through the parlor,
past the Roman bust,
and up the stairs into his private suite where the ebony grand piano sat near the window.
The early morning sunlight filtered through the glass,
illuminating the thin layer of dust on the instrument.
Dominic walked over to the piano,
reached down,
and deliberately lifted the heavy wooden lid,
exposing the ivory keys for the first time in a decade.
He looked back at Ruby,
his eyes full of warmth,
desire,
and deep reverence.
"This house was built on silence because I was afraid of the pain outside,
" Dominic said softly,
walking over to stand directly in front of her.
"I thought quiet meant safety."
"But you showed me that silence is just an empty room waiting for a song."
Ruby reached up,
her fingers lightly touching his jawline,
feeling the rough stubble against her soft skin.
"And what do you want to hear now,
Mr. Vale?" she whispered.
Dominic smiled—a real,
genuine,
breathtaking smile that transformed his harsh,
mafia-boss features into those of a man who had finally found his home.
"I want to hear you,
" Dominic murmured,
closing the distance between them.
"I want to hear your voice in every hallway,"
"I want to hear your laughter in every room,"
"and I never want this house to be quiet again."
He leaned down and pressed his lips against hers in a passionate,
deep,
and lingering kiss that swept away ten years of loneliness and cold shadows.
Ruby wrapped her arms around his broad neck,
pulling him closer,
her body molding perfectly against his as she returned the kiss with all the warmth and passion in her soul.
When he finally pulled back,
breathing heavily,
his dark eyes were glowing with absolute devotion.
"Now,
" Dominic whispered,
resting his forehead against hers,
"sing for me,
Ruby."
"Sing as loud as you want."
"And let the whole world hear."
Ruby smiled,
May you like
took a deep breath,
and let her voice soar into the quiet morning,
