Chapter 20 - THE DAWN OF TOMORROW

The morning sun on Christmas Day rose like a brilliant stroke of gold across the snow-covered hills of the Hudson Valley.

The air outside was crisp,

silent,

and painfully clear.

I walked out onto the wide wooden front porch,

holding Noah bundled safely against my chest in a heavy woolen blanket.

He blinked sleepily against the bright morning light,

letting out a soft,

contented yawn as the cold winter air touched his cheeks.

I looked out over the vast expanse of white fields,

the ancient apple orchards standing tall against the horizon,

and the blue sky stretching endlessly above us.

The past year felt like a lifetime away—

a dark,

complicated dream that had finally dissolved in the morning light.

There were no more secrets.

No more hidden safes.

No more billionaire predators or corporate empires built on sand.

Just the steady rhythm of our breathing,

the solid wood of the farmhouse beneath our boots,

and an unwritten future stretching out as far as the eye could see.

I pressed a soft kiss to Noah’s forehead,

feeling the incredible warmth of his life against my heart.

“Merry Christmas,

little one,”

May you like

I whispered into the cold winter air.

“Welcome home.”
