Chapter 14

The following morning, the Blackwell mansion was bathed in bright, cinematic sunlight, completely devoid of any dull, yellow tint. The pristine light poured through the towering windows, illuminating an estate that had survived a siege and emerged stronger. The bodies were gone, the shattered glass replaced, and the heavy mahogany doors polished.

Ethan stood in his private study, a room of dark oak and rich leather, looking out over his manicured lawns. The perimeter was heavily fortified by elite, silent guards.

Marcus stepped into the room, his American accent crisp and professional. "Boss. The retaliatory strikes against the Moretti strongholds were executed flawlessly overnight. They have surrendered their ports and their logistical hubs. The war is officially over."

"Excellent," Ethan murmured, not turning away from the window. "And Vanessa?"

"Secured in the cellar cage, as instructed," Marcus reported grimly. "She is hysterical. She is demanding to speak to a lawyer."

"Let her scream into the dark," Ethan ordered, his voice cold and absolute. "She will remain there until she understands the exact measure of the pain she inflicted."

The heavy study doors clicked open, and Claire walked in. She was wearing an elegant, soft cashmere sweater and tailored slacks, looking profoundly healthier after a night of rest and proper medical care. Her fair, rosy skin was returning, her beauty undeniable.

Marcus offered a deep, respectful bow and exited the room, leaving the king and queen of the syndicate alone.

"You look beautiful," Ethan said softly, crossing the room to meet her.

"I feel like I'm waking up from a long nightmare," Claire smiled, resting her hands on his chest. "Is it really over, Ethan?"

"The monsters are dead, Claire," Ethan promised, wrapping his powerful arms around her waist. "Our borders are secure."
