Chapter 13 - The Puppet Master's Retaliation: A Cold Calculation of Blood and Power in the High-Rise of Greed

Back in the heart of the city,

in the penthouse suite of the Bennett Tower,

Silas Bennett was a man possessed.

The room was filled with the blue glow of a dozen monitors,

each one showing a different angle of the city’s security grid.

Victor stood in the corner,

his face bruised and his arm in a sling.

He looked like a man who was waiting for a death sentence.

"You lost them," Silas said,

his voice a low,

vibrant hum of fury.

He didn't scream.

He didn't throw things.

He was far more dangerous when he was calm.

"They had outside help, sir," Victor stammered.

"Julian... he hacked the gates. He must have been preparing for this for months."

"His name is Mateo," Silas snapped,

turning his chair to face his henchman.

"And he was a broken man until that woman arrived. I told you she was a liability. I told you to eliminate her twenty years ago."

"I thought she was dead!" Victor cried.

"Thoughts are for poets, Victor. I pay you for results."

Silas stood up and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window.

The city looked like a circuit board below him,

a system he thought he controlled.

"They won't go to a hospital. They won't go to the police. Lucia knows I own the police."

He tapped his cane against the glass.

"Where does a wounded animal go when it's cornered?"

"To its den?" Victor suggested.

"No. To the place where it felt safe. The place where it was born."

Silas pulled a tablet from his pocket and swiped through a series of old files.

He stopped on a grainy photo of a small,

wooden bridge.

"The bridge," he whispered.

"The place where the legend of Julian Bennett began. And where the life of Mateo ends."

"Shall I send the teams?" Victor asked.

"No. I want to be there. I want to see the look on her face when she realizes that there is no escape. I want to see her children's eyes when I tell them who their father really was."

Silas turned back to the monitors.

"Activate the 'Orchard' protocol. If they touch the ledger, I want the entire estate to go into lockdown. No one gets in. No one gets out."

"And the woman?"

Silas smiled,

a cold,

calculated expression.

"Kill the woman. Kill the boy. Bring the girl to me. She has the look of her grandmother. She'll make a fine Bennett once I’ve scrubbed the slums off her."

He picked up his glass of brandy and took a slow,

deliberate sip.

He was a man who played the long game.

He had spent decades building his empire on the bones of his family.

He wasn't going to let a maid and a cripple tear it down.

"Victor," he said as the man turned to leave.

"Sir?"

"If you fail me again, don't bother coming back. I’ll find a use for your organs in one of our medical research facilities."

Victor paled and hurried out of the room.

Silas watched him go,

his eyes returning to the skyline.

The moon was setting.

The dawn was coming.

And with it,

the final reckoning.

He felt a surge of excitement,

a thrill he hadn't felt in years.

This wasn't just about business anymore.

This was about legacy.

May you like

This was about the moon and the blood.

And Silas Bennett always won.
